As a long-time fan of the Batman universe, I was excited to dive into "Gotham Knights". The game's premise of bringing back beloved sidekicks like Nightwing, Batgirl, Red Hood, and Robin immediately piqued my interest. The narrative following the aftermath of Batman's death offered a unique perspective that I was eager to explore. Here is a few things I fell are important to know about the game.

  • Gameplay: The gameplay in "Gotham Knights" blends action and RPG elements, allowing me to switch between the different characters and utilize their unique abilities. While the controls were generally functional, I did experience some moments of disconnect between my inputs and the characters' reactions. Occasionally, I felt that the characters didn't move as precisely as I had intended, which could be a bit frustrating. However, these issues didn't significantly detract from the overall experience.
  • Graphics and Sound: Visually, "Gotham Knights" presents an updated version of the classic Gotham Knights games. The graphics are on par with modern standards, providing a visually appealing experience that resonates with my nostalgia for the franchise. The atmospheric environments and vibrant color palette helped immerse me in the world of Gotham City.
  • Story and Characters: The storyline in "Gotham Knights" was engaging, especially for someone like myself who grew up with these beloved characters. Seeing the familiar sidekicks take center stage added a layer of emotional connection that I thoroughly enjoyed. The character development and their individual motivations kept me invested in their journeys.
  • Replayability and Longevity: For me, "Gotham Knights" is primarily a one-time playthrough experience, focused on the narrative. While the game does offer opportunities for exploration and side missions, I found these to become somewhat repetitive after a while. The emphasis on unlocking everything may appeal to some players, but it didn't sustain my interest for an extended period.

In conclusion, "Gotham Knights" is a solid title for fans of the Batman universe, particularly those who appreciate the inclusion of the iconic sidekicks. The engaging story and updated graphics made for an enjoyable experience, even if the game may not have high replayability for me personally.

Recommendation: If you, like me, have fond memories of the previous Batman games and are interested in exploring the Bat-Family's journey, I would definitely recommend giving "Gotham Knights" a try. It's a worthwhile experience, even if it may not become a long-term obsession.

If you came from the Batman Arkham series expecting a similar type of game, abandon your expectations now as Gotham Knights differs greatly from the Arkham Series, and has a more colourful and brighter setting and cast. The combat system is more reminiscent of a typical beat-em-up game, similar to how the Assassin Creed series of games is now, compared to Arkham's flow combat system.

The story is rather short but there are side quests storylines to compensate for it. However, I felt that the story was too shallow, and having 4 main characters also meant that the already short story run-time had even less time to flesh out the details for each of the 4 characters. Hence, the story failed to be gripping, and instead, felt like just another side quest you could do with any of the characters you liked, as if it had no personal implications to them.

The gameplay can get rather repetitive as you would just be flying around the open world and resolving crimes. However, the game alleviates this by offering a plethora of different types of crimes to resolve (although most still involve you smashing in criminal faces). Having 4 different characters also mean different gameplay styles and abilities, which can help refresh the gameplay loop. Heroic Assualt though... is just horrible and extremely repetitive.

Overall, I felt that for a comic based game, the story could have been more fleshed out, given the wealth of story material available out there. The gameplay and combat is fun, and having 4 different heroes helps keep the gameplay grind interesting for longer. All things considered, it's a average game you can have some fun with on the side.

Pour l'instant...On est bien loin de l'apocalypse annoncé par les gens à la sortie du jeu. 9h de jeux j'ai eu qu'une seule chute de framerate et c'était pendant un combat de horde.

I'm especially loving the photo mode with all the advanced lens, custom lighting, and filtering setups!

screenshot of batcycle driving across a bridge. The camera angle is low down capturing the batcyle in the left portion of the frame and a helicopter is seen to the middle-top of the screen. it's night time and theres a backdrop of buildings. Light trails are coming out of the bikes rear light screenshot taken directly behind the batcycle showing the rear wheel, exhaust, and bright rear light with light trails coming directly head-on towards the camera. There are blue and red police lights, vehicles, and officers either side of the bike with a temporary wooden roadblock setup. screenshot showing dick grayson doing a cartwheel over a molotov grenade that has been thrown at him. the setting is an interior church corridor.

I think I’m noping out of this one. It’s really mediocre in every way. Combat, traversal, dialogue, narrative all feel worse than the Arkham games. I’m really not interested in this story. It’s not the fault of the character roster, but they aren’t compelling thanks to lacklustre acting and a story that fails to engage. Maybe I’ll be in the …

Locking the glide ability behind several challenges sure was a boneheaded move.

They really scraped the bottom of the TV barrel for these actors. It’s kind of weird of given the typically quality talent that WB usually taps for their animated projects, and the voice actors that Rocksteady brought in (minus Troy Baker).

This game is like Batman meets Scooby-Doo.

Which kind of makes me nostalgic for Hanna-Barbera Super Friends. Also Batman & Scooby-Doo, lol.

I also kind of want the Robins and Batgirl to jump in their own Bat version of the Mystery Mobile.

Robin is delightful. Refreshing to find a member of the bat family who is actually pleasant to the people around him.

Gotham Knights As a gamer and a Batman fan, I need to say I am disappointed. The main story is that the future 4 different characters are only divided by their looks ad a skill tree, combat is more or less the same. The story wise is laking the bosses, for a game of that caliber that is a big thing. ther is no pleasure in leveling up or in progressing the story because is so much repetitive The side quests are a little bit different (spoilers) 3 bosses and only 3 in this game while Arkham knight future 20 boss fights with a full story. Combat is ok in this game but also repetitive and doesn't hold up. The city of Gotham is pure s... and disappointing playground after Gotham knight. As a Batman fan, the titans so cold are a bunch of spilled teenagers with nothing to do. They are not saving anybody especially not our money for this game. This game is dull with lazy writing and in general, I am pissd off because they waisted so much potential. My friking honest review and the first one .****

10% of my playtime has been spent awkwardly walking into edges of walls, backing up, and trying to walk through the doorway or around the corner again. For characters who are supposed to stealthily swoop in and out of a room without being noticed, how did the designers get basic movement so wrong?
