I'm eight hours in and not hating it so far. A couple of caveats:

  1. I'm absolute Batman trash. I not only played Arkham Origins but enjoyed it.
  2. I'm playing this almost exclusively in co-op, which improves almost any gaming experience.

It has performance problems, even on a decently beefy PC (GTX 3070 and Ryzen 7 3800X). The combat definitely isn't …

The combat definitely isn't what somebody coming from the Arkham games will expect. It's more like that Guardians of the Galaxy game, where basic combat is one or two buttons you press over and over again while waiting to be able to use a variety of cooler and more satisfying special abilities. I'm not going to say it's great combat. It feels kinda clunky and there's not much to it. But it's definitely the worst at the start when you have the fewest abilities, and only gets more fun as you unlock more stuff, so people's first impressions are making it seem worse than it actually is.

As of right now I'm leaning towards a 3/5. It's not terrible but if you're not perpetually thirsty for a batman themed game nor for a fresh co-op game to play with the friend you've already played every other co-op thing in the world with like I am, I'd probably give it a pass.

I was looking forward to playing this a lot, I mean a superhero game that has co-op features? I feel like a lot of superhero fans have been waiting for this kind of game for too long especially since Avengers was such a flop.

Looks like reviews aren't too hot though. Performance issues as well as reports that the gameplay and combat is simply a dumbed down version of rocksteadys Arkham mechanics... what a shame. I'll give the game a few months to stew and see if it improves.

Anyone playing it at the moment and enjoying it?

The 30fps vs 60fps debate aside, it seems that reviewers are finding the game has trouble even hitting a consistent 30fps. Sounds very much like a game that may not have been optimized as well as it should.

Digital Foundry says they'll have their video analysis up soon. I look forward to their breakdown.

Edit: Never mind, it's up:

This looks like the Agents of Mayhem of Arkham games, albeit without any of the attempted humour.

Is that a bad thing? Maybe, maybe not.

However, it does look like a game that is at least 70% likely to make me say the word "bloat" during discussions during, and after, playing it.

P.S. does anyone else feel like the world …

P.S. does anyone else feel like the world collectively needs a break from superhero media? Even if it's just for a little while?
