Not making a good first impression so far. It’s so much harder than 7 and 8. Battles are slow and there’s just way too many many games in the beginning of the game.

I played FF7 and 8 on PS4, so I was looking forward to playing FF9 on PS4 too. Right away, it already feels like the worst port of the 3. The other 2 at least felt like they were made for consoles, but this port of 9 immediately screams out made for mobile from its aspect ratio, UI, and even …

The other 2 at least felt like they were made for consoles, but this port of 9 immediately screams out made for mobile from its aspect ratio, UI, and even from how the character moves. I also got accustomed to x3 speed, so I’m gonna miss that. I hope I still enjoy the game, even if I get the impression this might not be the best way to experience it.

I like this one enough, but I feel like fans hold this one in really high esteem. I appreciate that Squaresoft went back to basics after going off the rails with FF8 with a traditional fantasy story. I appreciate that Squaresoft went back to basics after going off the rails with FF8 with a traditional fantasy story. Vivi is probably the best character in any Final Fantasy game. Despite that, I think the plot meandered too much in this one and the villains never made any impact. While I liked the combat, learning abilities from equipment seemed pretty basic and limiting. I swear I like this game, but there's too much holding it back from being 5 stars.

Finished Disc 1 last night. At this point I can officially declare this boring, which is so disappointing. This is really people's favorite? The pacing is slow, there isn't one likeable character (maybe Freya), no fun exploration or character customization yet. The pacing is slow, there isn't one likeable character (maybe Freya), no fun exploration or character customization yet. Side quests are non-existent, or just not fun - Chocobo Hot and Cold is more tedious than fun and Tetra Master is freaking AWFUL, especially with how great Triple Triad was. Who thought it would be a good idea to make an RNG-dependent TCG? I stopped challenging people, because no matter what I do, and how good the cards I play, I have never once won a TURN, let alone a whole game.
Last thing for now - I'm playing the PS4 remaster, and this runs incredibly slowly, which seems odd. Did others have this problem?
I'm hoping this starts to pick up steam now that the villain's been introduced.

Final Fantasy IX (also known as the best Final Fantasy) is 20 years old now.
To celebrate, I wrote an article (in spanish) about one of my all-time favorite characters: the lovely and tragic Vivi.

Is impossible not to love Vivi.

Don't really remember anything about this (as opposed to FFVII, though I did play that twice)- maybe should watch some video reviews to see if anything becomes familiar.

Playing on Game Pass (added yesterday), I am liking it more than expected. I’m in a weird position as all the FFs I’ve played (VI, VIII, X, XIII, XIII-2, XV) are nothing like this, so even though it’s the homage to classic FF, it feels the most different of any I’ve played. Maybe people who got onboard with FFVII back …

I’m not too into the art style, kinda 50-50 on the characters, but the plot of the game is already pretty interesting a few hours in. I can see the hype about Vivi, really good character so far. In terms of tone, characters, and story, the game kinda feels to me like a Disney movie, which is cool. Not sure if the original has this problem, but wow the black screen load times before each battle are borderline unacceptable.
On the fence about playing the whole game, since I’m not quite as drawn to play it all day as I was with VIII, but so far so good!

Still on Disc 2, just recovered the princess. It's an interesting twist on the Final Fantasy formula, to have you playing as a bunch of bad guys--dissidents and fifth columnists trying to take down a noble government just trying to protect its borders. I wonder what the princess is getting out of this--all she seems to be doing is destroying the country she claims to love. It will be interesting to see where the plot goes. Will the Queen finally restore order? Will our anti-heroes face the justice they deserve?

On disc 2. Is it just me, or is something strange about the Queen? I wonder if she's really looking out for her daughter's well-being...
