The remedy for AAA woes
It’s a common trope that the latest AAA release is horrible and exploits customers, or at least delivers a substandard product for $70-$100. This game was, for me, just a ton of fun. I honestly can’t say that BG3 gave me more fun than this, although it’s only about ⅓ the length of Larian’s masterpiece. I’m certainly comparing the two games. I just know playing through Skald was pure fun in a way not many games manage to achieve for me.
It has it’s flaws. Most notably the inability to select characters when asked to perform a skill check and that, if there’s a way to undo a selection in combat, I never figured it out. But the story, the music, the mechanics, and the artwork all work to make a very nice game. The difficulty is completely customizable and the puzzles are never too difficult. If you enjoy party-based RPGs, pixel art, and the cosmic horror genre, you’ll probably enjoy this game. I even thought I was almost done about 15 hours in but there was almost another 10 hours to go.
It worked fine on my Deck but 95% of my playtime was on my laptop.
