Something I do enjoy? The gear load outs. I like this slight RPG element that allows you to tweak your play style. Want lots of protection and more advantages? Equip items with high attack and health and sacrifice stealth or ranged. What to sneak around completely undetected? Select gear that reduces you high and low profile noise, takedown noise and fall noise. You'll be able to pick off guards one by one without the others ever hearing you. It's a nice touch. The problem is that there is so much in this game it's easy to overlook this aspect and miss out tailoring the experience to something you enjoy.

I'm looking at my initial post on Unity, and while I can see why I said what I said in favour of the game, my opinion has changed somewhat. It's still a richer Assassin's Creed game than Black Flag, with a more enjoyable setting and plot (I'm referring specifically to the land based Assassin elements and mechanics and not sailing). Yet I find my interest waning. Black Flag is a terrible Assassin's Creed with dull combat and a dull story. But at least when I was bored of the Assassin half I could set sail and enjoy myself at sea. There really is no escape from the generally lacking story of Unity. It's beyond me how Ubisoft managed to create a uninteresting set of characters and story elements while set in an otherwise fascinating time period such as the French Revolution. Maybe it's me and I've hit my limit when it comes to Assassin's Creed games. Maybe it's simply that. Maybe it's not that Unity is missing the things that made the earlier games compelling like complex characters. Or maybe Revolutionary Paris isn't as interesting as Florence or Constantinople or Victorian London or even North America during the American Revolution (although Paris seems like it should be just as interesting). Or maybe, and this might be on the right track, the game is so bloated that I'm really not interested in completing much beyond the main story. There so much to do I can't bring myself to locate the energy to investigate it all. Ubi clearly pared back on some of this content in Syndicate, which was welcome. Completing side quests in that didn't seem as draining as it is in Unity. Whatever the reason, I'm looking forward to finishing the main story so I can move on.

It's definitely a stronger Assassin's Creed game with a better story than Black Flag. As much as I loved the sailing in that game, the story left a lot to be desired. On a side note, it's great news that Skull & Bones has been announced, because the best part of Black Flag finally has it's own game.
Back to Unity. I enjoy the revolutionary setting and the return to a more in depth, if not far fetched plot, wrapped in the trappings of history. I have only just started the game, but it introduces some decent ideas to the series and it's wonderful to be back in a architecturally rich city.
