I started a Fallout 4 play through in May 2023. Three years later, I’ve amassed 50 hours of playing time and pretty much universally treat each session with a “Well I guess I have nothing else to do” attitude. I enjoyed FO3 and NV but this just falls flat for me. In the same way that Skyrim felt like a simplified, almost corporatized into palatability Morrowind, this just feels kind of soulless. I couldn’t get into the story and didn’t care much for the uncanny valley characters. Combine with long loading times and quest breaking bugs and I decided to backlog this. I suppose my save is in the cloud.

Really loving the latest season. The way it digs in to the corporate psyche and shows the dizzying spell capitalism can have on the population and our morals is so beautifully done. Whether people watching will make the connections to our own past and present is another story.

Reading some of the reception to the fallout 4 Anniversary Edition release, it's so sad to see Bethesda treat their die hard fan base with such low regard. The release breaks (yet again) the very mods that keeps a large portion of their fan base coming back.

On top of this all the anniversary edition does is bundles together a bunch of mods from the Bethesda creation catalogue and then charges people £50+ for it. Did they learn nothing from Skyrim? I hate to complain like this, Fallout is one of my favourite gaming franchises, but it reeks of corporate greed for such a low effort anniversary release.

I guess the silver lining is that the creators who made these mods do get paid by Bethesda. Probably the only positive out of all this...

Happy 10 year anniversary for Fallout 4!

This was my debut PS4 game back in 2015, in fact I purchased the console with some savings just to experience the new Fallout! Fresh faced, only two months into university, and away from home for the first time - this little treat brought me great comfort at a pretty scary time in my life.

The new friend I'd made in class also pre-ordered the game with me and we both collected it from the campus delivery depot before reluctantly attending our lectures. In an unfamiliar environment it was so nice to bond with someone else over a franchise I adored. I stayed up until 4am waiting for the day one patches to download and then played until the early hours. The next day we talked about our experiences playing the game all night! Such special memories, the cinematic intro, and the PS4 idle background music, forever etched into a core memory. Happy times:)

The loading times are nuts even with a good PC.

Finally making a little bit of headway on the main quest. Not too much tho. The part where you’re going through Kellog’s memories is just straight up awesome

Almost 30 hours in at this point. Taking back The Castle with the Minutemen. Pretty dope. Haven’t done anymore Brotherhood related things but I have joined the Railroad even though I could care less about synth lives.

Played about 20 hours so far and haven’t progressed the main story line too much. I have rescued Valentine and that’s about it. Most of my time has been dedicated to the clunky settlement building. It’s great!

Been playing this the last few days for fun and for trophies. I completed a crap ton of side quests and maxed out a relationship with a companion (Cait). I legitimately can't think of anything else to do in this game so I am stopping now because of that, but I really don't want to stop playing... T_T

So I competed the quest “The Nuclear Option.” Did I beat the game? I didn’t see any credits roll but the fallout Wiki seems to say this is the end of the main quest line….

The environmental story telling is super fun and so far I think the crafting does seem to add a lot to the game, but it's more "survival" than I'm used to and I've found the beginning a bit unforgiving.

Walking from Sanctuary to my first minuteman mission, I ran into a Yao Guai and got absolutely wrecked. It seems like running away is my best defense against a lot of things which isn't my favorite way to play and I am a bit peeved to be constantly running out of ammo. I figure this is a me problem and I need to adapt my play to be a bit more circumspect and cautious.

I finally finished the sims settlement 2 modpack in fallout 4. It is honestly one If the most impressive mod packs I have ever seen. I prefer it to the plot of the original game.
