Fallout 4 is a really overhated game. It's mechanically so much better than Fallout 3, and it's setting wise the best the series has ever been. Really the only thing kinda wrong with it is how goddamned HARD it is even on easy.

Painfully mediocre. Difficult to describe how and why. Balancing/difficulty is straight up 0 out 5 for effort. Genuinely not fun to play. Here for the dialog, immersion, music... but the gunplay and vast majority of gameplay feels really unpolished and just, lazy. Sloppy. Poorly executed. Most importantly: not really a lot of fun to play unless you can get super-immersed. …

This game got a lot of "average" reviews and fanfare, much more than you'd expect from a Bethesda game, and I'm beginning to see why it got that response from fans and critics.

Finally played the DLC. I reprised my role in the BoS and wiped those filthy synths and Children of Atom off the Island. Among other more forgettable things.

I've enjoyed my time with Fallout 4 and think it's one of the better Bethesda games in terms of game feel and writing. There's just a lot less gameplay variety than in the Elder Scrolls games, since you're not really getting much in the way of gameplay changing abilities. I live on variety, so it's hard to keep interest in something that is static gameplay-wise for too long.

Something I should keep in mind as I try not to overhype myself for Starfield haha.

I finally got into a good rhythm after scavenging a while I now have a reasonable gear that supports my "sneaky sniper" play-style. A nice pistol to which I attached a suppressor and a bunch of scoped rifles for different situations (suppressed sniper for stealthy take-downs, heavy but slow for long shots, and a weak one that uses cheaper ammo for when I'm low on .45 ammo).

Now I'm really enjoying just walking on a straight line and discovering all the little stories of the Wasteland.

I guess it's high time I removed my 2-star rating for this game.

It wouldn't be fallout if it wasn't riddled with bugs even after years of official and fan-made patches.

I noticed a very familiar voice coming from a random NPC and it dawned on me that it was Garrus' voice! And that made me also realise that my character's voice is Jack's!

I don't get it. Everyone on Diamon city is scared shitless about synths... but Valentine just prances around the city?

It feels a bit overwhelming, but the world is fun to explore. Every little section of the map has something interesting, and even when it doesn't, it's just nite to roam around, walking the countryside listening to the radio.

I remember now one of the reasons I bounced from it some years ago when I first play a couple of hours: the character interactions feel so weird. My character is on a first-name basis with every NPC almost before talking to them even once. I guess it makes for a more efficient storytelling, but it makes it very hard to be immersed in the world.

Pinging the modmaster @anarchistica. Which mods would you recommend for essentially a first-time player who doesn't care for crafting?

I've heard that it is possible to play it with ignoring crafting completely, but then wouldn't it be an incomplete experience?

I'm very surprised and kinda disappointed to see that Bethesda chose a different approach from their signature immersive, silent protagonist type of game. And I was more than disappointed when I first used the new VATS system. Why it's not stopping time completely??? Thankfully there is a mod for that, even for PS4.
