  • Action platformer with light metroidvania elements
  • Very satisfying traversal and stylish platforming sections
  • Combat offers a lot of exciting tools (slow bubble, time warps, dashes, parries, etc.). However, poor encounter design and readability issues make it more frustrating than engaging. I ended up tuning the very granular difficulty settings to trivialize combat
  • Strong visuals and great soundtrack
  • Passable story, but …

Fun 2D Platformer with Metroid Vania mechanics

I really liked this game!

I wasn't expecting Convergence to be this fun. I hope Riot does more of this 2D side-scrolling games and they take more risks in creating a 100% Metroid Vania. It's really obvious this game is a safe bet by making it an adventure platformer with only little elements of a MV so it ended up …

I wasn't expecting Convergence to be this fun. I hope Riot does more of this 2D side-scrolling games and they take more risks in creating a 100% Metroid Vania. It's really obvious this game is a safe bet by making it an adventure platformer with only little elements of a MV so it ended up being a fun game with much potential with this quality, lore and visuals.

Also I'm looking forward to play more from Double Stallion, I think they did an amazing job with this one. The same as for Riot, I hope they make a full Metroid Vania with what they learned making Convergence.

I totally recommend it!

LoLvania

This is a mediocre metroidvania. Minimal exploration, no sequence breaking and a very lineal progress.

It is also an EXCELLENT 2D Action Platformer. One of the best I've played lately.

After this game and The Mageseeker I can definitely consider myself a fan of the Riot Forge project. Giving their world, characters and lore to indie studios to expand the "lolverse" is a fantastic idea and I hope the keep building on it.

Back to Convergence. You can read my full review in spanish here.

Combat is great. The traversal skills are really fun and the time travel related plot is actually good. The cartoon style and soundtrack fit perfectly in this world. If you don't care about LoL but liked the Arcane series, this is set in the same cities and share several characters, including Jinx.

Fairly linear Metroidvania with top notch gameplay

This game really came out of nowhere and surprised me quite a bit. It is a Metroidvania-lite side scroller in a kind of Into the Spiderverse animation style (which is great).

The gameplay is outstanding. Super unique character abilities that play with time, very sleek platforming and combat.

This game really came out of nowhere and surprised me quite a bit. It is a Metroidvania-lite side scroller in a kind of Into the Spiderverse animation style (which is great).

The gameplay is outstanding. Super unique character abilities that play with time, very sleek platforming and combat.

The only weakness is exploration… It is handed to you on a silver platter. The game is only borderline Metroidvania, because you can clear each area 100% on the first visit. It’s always obvious where a secret is, so it’s never too tricky and never asks you to backtrack too much.

I got 100% in about 15 hours, and it was a blast the whole way through. The story is serviceable, the art is excellent, and the gameplay is next level. Check it out! But probably on a sale.
