Not sure what I'm missing about this game. I'm about to quit.

I love the look, and so far from what I've played, gonna like the story too. I just can't get into the game play. The menu system is a bit awkward to navigate through, enemies are meh, and I just feel like the glue gun limits the flow of the game. Difficulty is also odd. I have it at normal, but keep dying. Maybe it was my expectation of being a Bioshock in space. I should be loving this game. Am I missing something? Should I keep going?

I'm playing the DLC, and if the idea of a shorter Prey roguelite with permadeath sounds attractive to you, Prey: Mooncrash is your game.

So I’ve heard a bit about the fact that people dislike the end of Prey. Having completed several endings now, I have to admit I’m a bit at a loss as to why.

First impressions can be wrong. Prior to Prey’s release, I played the demo for the game. The first impression it gave me did not move me very much. It felt a lot like Dishonored in space. Being an Arkane game it’s not surprising that Prey is built on the bones of their other main series. Even things like in-game notices look striking like those in Dishonored 2.

This is not inherently a bad thing, but I played Dishonored 2 not long before and I was not blown away. I was actually disappointed with how the second Dishonored lacked anything compelling in the way of replay value. So at the point that I dipped my toe into the world of Prey, I was not in the mood for more “Dishonored”.

Flash forward to 2018 and two things have changed:

  1. I have Dishonored: Death of the Outsider under my belt, a game I played three times over and platinumed (something I rarely care to do) thanks to some highly engaging elements, renewing my interest in Arkane’s work.
  2. The realization that despite its superficial similarities to Dishonored, Prey is a very different game, one that is more complex game with a rhizomatic structure that makes Dishonored’s forking paths feel like rigid linearity.

If you have heard people say that Prey is the descendant of System Shock, take them seriously. Prey is a significantly satisfying game in the vein of System Shock, benefiting from modern mechanics and visuals. I have been playing for a bit now and I have barely left the initial areas. I continually find new things to explore and then discover the more I poke around. The game is satisfyingly multilayered and the riches of every area of the Talos I space station is something that even the fairly and richly detailed Dishonored seems minuscule when the two are compared. Do not make my mistake and think this is just Dishonored in space.

Reminded me of SOMA, at the beginning. Scifi setting with you not having a clue about what is going on. SOMA's story is much more simple, though. And yet, way deeper. I dont know why, but I havent been able to connect with the story nor the characters. The gameplay hasnt helped, either. A 6/10

Boring at the beginning-> 2-3 hours Kinda good on the middle -> 4-5 hours Very good ending -> Last hour.

I died too many times. But still finished the game around 9 hours. I didnt fight most of the enemies maybe thats why. I sneak up upon them and run away to not to encounter with them on Normal difficulty. …

Pre 2006 was more better I think. This one is kinda overrated.

Mixture of bioshock infinite + dishonored + lil bir mirrors edge.

Anyone playing The Prey demo? There are some definite shades of System Shock here.
