Ys: The Oath in Felghana (2005)

I can see its ambition. Still, it's one of the harder Ys games for mostly bad reasons. I've played on very easy, yet somehow at certain parts I kept on dying.

Cheap enemy placement, traps no one likes, equipment that could've made the climb way easier, some bosses that seems like an out-damaging or out-enduring contest, harder difficulty which just means numbers... I can go on and on about it.

The only thing I liked in this otherwise run of the mill Action-RPG, was that I actually had to figure out some bosses instead of just mashing my way through victory.

Why did I finish it? Just to see if it actually was that good. Sorry guys, but people saying it's good say that a McDonald's is the best food ever. It has a predictable story with run of the mill progression and some of the worst difficulty spike. Yes, even when it released.

Skip this one and spend your time on a better game. You, the gamer, deserves better.

Beat on Normal on loan from my coworker. Finished at level 51 but I don't remember more details. Pretty sure I maxed out the best gear. This was my very first Ys game and and I found it to be an enjoyable experience. The combat was quite challenging with the bosses being particularly intense. Damn good thing the game lets you freely retry bosses without penalty because most took a few attempts. If memory serves, I mostly did downward jump attacks as a way to survive. The platforming was a bit annoying.

Having since played Ys 3 through 7 I can say this game is one of the better ones in the series, vastly improving upon the original Ys 3. I could see getting my own copy and doing newgame+ on a higher difficultly. My notes say I gave it a 7 but it I'll bump it up to 8/10.

I've been playing this game a lot recently. It's a remake of Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, and it's a really good one. The music is awesome, and it plays really well. It's a really cool Action RPG that has a decent little story, and lots of cool abilities you get as you go along. I remember Ys III being extremely difficult when I was a kid. This game keeps with that tradition, but it's a little more manageable. In Ys III, you'd have to sit at the beginning of a level and kill the same monsters over and over again to level up. Then you'd run outside of the dungeon to get your health back, and go back in and do it all over again until you were strong enough to go further into the dungeon. In this version of the game, you'll feel like the beginning of a level is really difficult, but doable if you're careful. By the end of a level, you'll just be tearing through all of the enemies because you've powered up enough to handle the level. The bosses are really hard, but once you figure out their pattern, it's just a matter of executing well enough to beat them down.

I just figured out recently you pronounce Ys as "ees" and not the individual letters Y and S. I think I prefer the individual letters honestly.
