The Best Thief Game......Maybe
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

I can never decide if this is my favorite Thief game, or if I prefer its predecessor. I suppose it depends on the day, but I think this game comes on top more often than not for me because it’s just more polished and better crafted. However, it is true that you can only experience something for the first time once and the original game just startled because it was so different to everything else that was out there to play at the time. Having said that, on to Thief II

This game has more of a city feel to it. Less monsters, less mazes to get lost in. Like the first game, combat is to be avoided. You get a mission and you want to get in and out with nobody being the wiser that you were ever there. Garrett is given some new tools in this game to aid in his thieving ways

The security automatons were a fun addition to the game despite the fact that they could be a royal pain in the butt

The environments in the city are vast and some of the architecture quite beautiful. Nevertheless, the graphics are substandard even for this …

The environments in the city are vast and some of the architecture quite beautiful. Nevertheless, the graphics are substandard even for this era, however, in a game like this it’s all about gameplay and this is where Thief II excels

The AI is much improved. People will notice if a previously closed door is now open The world feels more alive than its predecessor and the missions have a great deal of variety

I do have to say that the game does seem a bit easier than Thief, but perhaps that has more to do with that fact that I was now familiar with how the game mechanics worked

A triumph of gameplay if not a financial success

THIEF 2 THE METAL AGE REVIEW:
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Thief 2 the metal age is a 2000 stealth game. The game's producer, Looking Glass Studios, and the game's distributor, Eidos Interactive, have done a great job.The story of the game is as follows. The game begins with Garrett continuing his life as a thief. However, he is betrayed by his fence and ambushed after an early mission, and the local Sheriff determines that Truart is hunting him.The Keepers take Garrett to hear a prophecy about the "Metal Age", which he ignores. As Garrett leaves, one of the Keepers informs him that Truart has been hired to kill him,and gives Garrett a letter directing him to eavesdrop on a machinist meeting. There, Garrett, Truart and Father Karras' street people, he is heard discussing turning themselves and nearby people into mindless "Servants" wearing Masks that emit a red vapor capable of reducing them to rust.Truart promises to give Karras twenty victims for his servant project, not realizing that Karras has recorded his words for use in blackmail.Garrett steals the recording from a safe to force Truart to disclose his employer. However, Garrett discovers that Truart has been murdered on his property.Evidence at the crime scene leads him to spy on police officer Lieutenant Mosley. Garrett sees …

However, Garrett discovers that Truart has been murdered on his property.Evidence at the crime scene leads him to spy on police officer Lieutenant Mosley. Garrett sees Mosley sending a suspicious letter, which is carried through the portal by a wounded pagan. Garrett enters the portal and finds himself outside the city, and he follows the blood pagan trail to Viktoria, who convinces Garrett to join her against the Machinists. On a tip from Viktoria, he infiltrates Karras' office to learn about the "Cetus project",and accidentally discovers that Karras has given servants to the city's nobles.Garrett goes to a machinist base to learn more about the Cetus project,it turns out to be a submarine. Garrett gets into the car to find and kidnap a high-ranking Mechanic named Brother Cavador. After delivering Cavador to Viktoria, Garrett steals a maid mask to learn about a mechanical technology called the "Cultivator". Meanwhile, Karras is hiding inside the mechanical cathedral to prepare for his plan. Dec. Garrett and Viktoria learn that it is the Cultivators inside the Maid masks who emit Red steam or "rust gas". Karras provided gardens to the Nobles to trigger an apocalyptic chain reaction.Viktoria plans to lure the servants into the hermetically sealed mechanical cathedral before activating the Karras masks, but Garrett believes this is too dangerous and leaves.Viktoria goes to the cathedral alone and dies while filling it with plants, and Garrett completes his plan, killing Karras in rust gas. Later, Garrett is approached by a keeper, who explains that Karras' plan and Viktoria's death were prophesied. Garrett wants to know the rest of the Guardians' prophecies when the game ends. The gameplay is as follows.in this game consisting of 15 chapters, you are trying to complete the tasks. The music of the game is beautiful. The graphics of the game are not bad.My rating for the game: 10/10 (y) Good games to everyone 🙂

Don't Tell Me What I Can't Do!

Intro

Thief 2 is an improved version of the original Thief, with basically all of the same strengths and flaws. I'm only going to describe how Thief 2 is different, so you might want to read my review of Thief first.

Review

I quit Thief 1 during the second level. I stopped playing this during the third level. It's an improvement, i guess. Level design is better in T2, it actually allows you to go through an entire level without being spotted by guards. Unfortunately going through a level still takes too much time compared to the enjoyment you get out of it. One of the more annoying aspects is the whole "secrets" thing. Basically you have to scour every cm of a map for keys and valuable objects. I spent 90 minutes on the second map and only got 66% of the loot. Wtf?!

I was still kinda enjoying the game until this happened:

locke

Like John Locke from Lost, i hate it when a game tells me what i can't do. Well, in this case at least. I just can't go through a huge map filled with enemies trying to find something fairly hidden with such a limitation. It's …

Like John Locke from Lost, i hate it when a game tells me what i can't do. Well, in this case at least. I just can't go through a huge map filled with enemies trying to find something fairly hidden with such a limitation. It's just not my thing. I never played Alien Isolation because of that, and i didn't enjoy Amnesia: The Dark Descent either.

Also the crappy item system really got on my nerves here. Hope they fixed that in Thief 3.

A true stealth masterpiece, tragically crippled by Shitty Final Level(s) Syndrome :(

So, I'm giving this a try after hearing how this game is the "pinnacle of all stealth games ever" or some such praise. The one disadvantage of it is the game encourages you to be in the dark & this game is dark. I shot out a torch & now my screen's just black.

Thief II - First Impressions

Super great stealth game that with its level design alone just with the first few missions is leaps and bounds above the first one. I like its use of intricate multiple-route level design with very well placed patrols. It's even better on higher difficulties where you have to be very aware of your environments, and there's a good amount of enemy information not on easy access to you. Having this amount of variables at play while planning your entire way through plus the personality the game has on offer here makes it already a very enjoyable start. Looking forward to coming back to it.
