I come back every few months and poke a this. Have a friend who plays semi-regularly, so he gets me up to speed on what needs doing. It's alright. Deserving of the 3/5 score I originally gave it, but it serves as a fantastic filler game. For 45 minutes to kill before I leave? Maybe play a little Destiny.

I should have known better. I really should have. It took the original Destiny until the Taken King DLC to reach the status of a game remotely worthy of what Bungie promised (don't get me started on the mailed-in, insulting bullshit that was the last DLC, Rise of Iron). I shouldn't have bought into the D2 hype. But I did, and what I got was a game that was not only substantially worse than Taken King era Destiny (the bare minimum standard a sequel needed to surpass), but one that eliminated much of what was great in the original, and added in heavily monetized microtransaction mechanics to boot. This is more mailed in horseshit from Bungie. Yes, it has a longer story, but that story is as bad, if not worse, than the original. Combat is oversimplified, not challenging, and involves the exact same enemies we have been fighting for years. Classes are the same, except they somehow managed to change the skill trees in a way that made them worse. World content is barren, repetitive, and often looks half-finished (see all of Io, for example). Strikes are a garbage fire, and so is the raid. The loot system is worse than broken. The whole thing is pathetic, low effort mess. It couldn't be a bigger "fuck you" to a player base that has given this franchise every chance and then some if the box art had been a giant middle finger. I hope gamers treat it accordingly.

The campaign so far is a lot better than Destiny and I'm enjoying it. However the bar was very low for that. After I finish the campaign I'll see how the multiplayer and endgame raid/strikes play out.

I hate the Woody Harrelson robot. Destiny without the MMO grind is just a mostly unfun loot shooter, even if it's mechanically stronger than its predecessor at launch.

Well, looks like we got another comedic, highly character-driven story trailer! Same as with the first Destiny. That 'HOOK'. I gotta say, they do them nicely. But this isn't Borderlands. Well, looks like we got another comedic, highly character-driven story trailer! Same as with the first Destiny. That 'HOOK'. I gotta say, they do them nicely. But this isn't Borderlands. We don't get remnants of these characters personalities splashed around our game with funny quips and dialogue like in B-lands (aka 'atmosphere'). You'll play Destiny and it'll be radio silence for the most part. Those quirky characters have limited dialogue and interaction because it wasn't in the budget. You'll quickly ask yourself while playing, "Where's the funny? This game doesn't FEEL like the trailer did." It often feels like Destiny has some good ideas from different departments, but none of those departments are talking to each other. Hmm :/

And how much do you wanna bet that there's more game content in a DLC than there is in the base game? They'd pleasantly surprise me if they have more locations to run missions, but with how little time it took to produce this game I highly doubt that. More than likely they're adding insult to injury by trying to release this as a way to start "from square one and do it right" with releasing a proper game and having a good track record (not gonna hold my breath though).

I guess all I'm getting at here is don't be fooled. It's been a sad turn for AAA game companies these past 5+ years to release hot garbage because people will still buy it (we can't fully blame parents, guys). They KNOW it's unfinished, they KNOW it's not tested completely for bugs. They say to their team, "The players will test for us," "Only a small percentage will bitch and quit and return the game, we can cover those losses." And they surely have factored releasing an unfinished game into their plan, that's no mistake. There's no transparency. You talk with your wallet, just be wary and make smart choices.
