Jeslie's review of The Last Crown: Midnight Horror

Maybe I'll change my mind if Blackenrock is ever released, but as things stand I'm not sure why this game was made. I'd have overlooked the dissatisfying story if I could have enjoyed the return to Saxton, but the game is too short and the interactions with TLC characters are too limited. I'd have overlooked the lackluster return to Saxton if there was an enjoyable story that made the most of the setting, but the story was too short to really develop any interest. And the fact that you spend a lot of time wandering around trying to figure out how to trigger the next event (and this is considered a "feature" by the developer) is also not something that endeared the game to me.

If it ever becomes a bridge between the two games, maybe I'll look at it with more fondness, but if Blackenrock stays stuck in development hell, then Midnight Horror is a pretty sorry end to the series. Two stars out of my customary four, and honestly, I'm rounding up.
