Never played a hitman game before (I don’t count Hitman Go), and I am quite enjoying it. Never played a hitman game before (I don’t count Hitman Go), and I am quite enjoying it. I enjoy the exploration aspect the most: grabbing intel, getting clues to opportunities of my targets and the various lore of the world. I tend to spend a long time on my first playthrough or two and then switch to run and gun just to see how much chaos I can cause. Fantastic to see that the game supports both play style extremes.

import all locations that you can already access in HITMAN 2 and play them with the new features and improvements from HITMAN 3, including updated lighting effects, animations and Agent 47's new camera item.

So, it would seem that the best way to play Hitman 2 is to download the Hitman 3 starter pack and import the levels from the free copy of Hitman 2, all without spending a penny.

Makes sense, right?

Not sure if like this kind of thing anymore. Not sure if like this kind of thing anymore. I enjoyed the detail and absurdity of the prior Hitman (yikes, that was 5 years ago), but today in this one I’m feeling annoyed by all the little ways you can get caught and have to reload, how unnaturally mechanical and systematic everything feels, how much methodical waiting around and slow tailing has to be done. I understand the appeal, but it’s not “clicking” for me and how I like to play a game at the moment after trying a couple levels. Maybe I’ve been on more straightforward / action-y games for too long and have lost the patience for this particular flavor of stealth. Would prefer pace-wise something like a Metal Gear with more isolated, quick challenges and a more interesting plot. Oh well, might try again at a later date, but for now it’s getting shelved.

After playing and replaying the Colombia mission on Hitman 2, I couldn't resist writing an article in spanish about this representation of my country and if it's a faithful recreation of our culture and geography or is just based on stereotypes.

Really enjoyed the Mumbai level. Others were not bad and I think better than the first. Just docked one star for the levels which were locked away as dlc. I think they should've come with the game.

Hitman 2 - First Impressions

This is kind of pseudo an impression of Hitman 2016 too because I don't plan to play that one while all the missions and cutscenes are in this game so no point.

It's great! Well, it's more like it's great in contrast to its simplicity. One of the things that really sell me on this game is the level design and aesthetic, of which is through the roof in terms of quality. The level design is incredibly free-form and complementary to regular hitman logic rather than simple game logic, with you being able to dynamically find out how to take down your target with/without "takeout story" hints. The aesthetic brings it home with how rocktight in that it makes you a complete badass when you finish off your target. Knowing the knowledge of the area and utilizing it is strong to pull off no matter the mechanics.

Now despite saying that, it still needs to be said how utterly simple the mechanics are. I played the first few levels so far on Professional and just to make sure I'm not missing anything i checked out footage of Master gameplay too. In short, I'm not impressed. Everything you do is mechanically simple. Disguising is a button press with the only disguise dynamics being enforcers, which are so utterly easy to trick with a coin that it's easy to say that there's nothing really to it. Even on a higher difficulty, the only thing that increases is patience, rather than what you're capable of doing. The stealth doesn't have much options to it either, and just really hit the basics.

To summarize, Hitman 2 seems like a game where the planning is excellent and interesting where the execution is lacking and simplistic. I think it equalizes out on one end to be a great game, but I do think it holds itself short. I'm going to have this game finished by next week and we'll see if my opinion changes by then.
