Unplayable

I remember liking this back in the day but for some reason it's unplayable now. It has some sort of mouse deceleration that drives me crazy. It doesn't help that there's literally no options menu. I even tried installing GooTool but that failed too because it couldn't install Java 1.6. What a mess.

I thought this was supposed to be a dumb game about building with goo, why is the music so intense and epic and why is the story tackling themes like industrialization, the dangers of consumerism, and fucking internet privacy. I do appreciate the extra flavor tho.

Good concept, badly executed.

The game concept is really good. The various goo and the "physical" aspect of the game. However the game have a lot situations where speed is off the essence and in this area it really lacks. The GUI for interacting with the goo is really bad.

A really nice puzzler with a good sense of humour, never thought that goo balls could be cute before I played this! Overall a solid game that can be casually enjoyed but you can also go hardcore and complete all levels in OCD (Obsessive Completion Disorder) mode.

Cons: uneven difficulty, can be hard to select desired gooball in a crowd

1001 Games - #861

Pros: funny "signpost" commentary, extra challenge goals adds replay value, multiple goo types keep puzzles fresh

Cons: uneven difficulty, can be hard to select desired gooball in a crowd

Recommendation: I usually am not super fond of physics puzzle games (because I suck at them) but World of Goo is too charming to ignore. The signposts serve as a fractured narrative as well as cryptic hints on how to complete the level, and I believe they elevate this game from simply a puzzler with a good physics engine to one of the best WiiWare/mobile apps. Solid puzzle design doesn't hurt either.
