From my limited knowledge of programming and simulations, the way that this game simulates these huge areas of liquids, solids, gases, rigid bodies, etc.. it should be impossible to do this in real time on a standard desktop computer. And to do it on such a scale in a persistent procedural world, it's incredible. I knew there had to be some trickery involved So I'm glad that I've finally seen the devs GDC conference which has answered a lot of my questions. Very insightful video.

Just got my third win! 3 successful wins, 116 fails, 55 hours total playtime.

My final wand setup by the end of the game:

The key to doing well at this game is to have a really deep understanding of how the magic/wand system works. And it's not easy to get your head around at first.

Also I think there's a "true ending" which would be really hard to do.. not to mention all the secrets and mysterious orbs/tablets and stuff. It's one of these games where "beating the game" is really only the first 1% of the full journey.
Nice to finally beat one of these impossible rogue-like games. Vagante and Towerclimb still haunt my dreams; I've been trying to beat those for 2+ years.

Interesting article about the development of Noita [link].
I love this game.
A quote from the article (re: designing the particle/physics system):
"The deer would also urinate from time to time, and they would end up in these ditches, and would urinate so much they'd drown in their own urine"

This game is absurdly fun. I can't put it down. It also has this neat death-replay feature where you can export a gif showing your fateful demise. In this unfortunate incident, I shot some spells at an insect hovering above. Unfortunately the insect has lava blood, which set a barrel on fire, causing an explosion which incinerated me immediately and hurled my charred remains across the screen. Love this game.
