Getting loot, upgrading gear, and hacking monsters to death is fun. That's pretty much it. If you don't care about music, graphics, story, and depth, you might like this.

THE DARKSTONE WON'T SHINE

The game is very mediocre I give it 5 stars because The game has literally never changed price It is $10 now and it was $10, 20 years ago I guess that's commendable?

90s Relic

I only managed to play this for 14 minutes because the game broke when i tried to fix it (by coping Voodoo2 dlls). I'm impressed that it runs in Windows 10 at all, but there were serious graphical issues which rendered objects and enemies invisible until they popped in (if they did at all).

The actual game is almost a copy of Diablo 1, down to the same 4 classes. It's a really basic and dated ARPG. You still have to pick up gold manually. I got flashbacks to having to keep piles of money on the floor in Tristram because money took up inventory space (one slot per 5K gold) in Diablo 1.

Even without the technical issues this just isn't worth your time. I'm not sure if i could even get into the original Diablo if i tried it now.

A Bit Ragged Due to Age

I was playing this online with someone. We took a break from another game to check this out. Darkstone is definitely a Diablo 1.5 inspired game with a 3D ENGINE.. IT also features a lot of features such as a spell system that lets you pick and choose things and level them up (rather than overtly tied to class) This almost gives it a DND Feel.
enter image description here The game objective is to search the game world and dungeons for some crystals that you need a certain quantity of, we managed to get most of them in a single day, but after that we didn't revisit the game.

There are several side quests, and as far as I can tell the game world is static rather than procedural, although the dungeons do seem to be procedural-ish.

Playing this with two players is helpful as the second player can revive you. Single player has the other player as an AI companion with all the management fuss that comes along with it.

It's an okay game for its time, despite it's quirks I though it was a cleverly designed game with a good blend of based on what works and stuff plugged in from elsewhere, the 3D engine is nice too, but by today's standards its tough to get into.
