Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare differs from previous installments of the Call of Duty series. Previous Call of Duty games have a distinct three country-specific campaign style, while Call of Duty 4 has a more film-like plot with interlaced story lines from the perspectives of Sgt. Paul Jackson of the Marines 1st Force Recon and Sgt. 'Soap' MacTavish of the British 22nd SAS Regiment.

Best game with correct balance of story and mechanics.

first play

played on gt 730, i3 7100 Played the entire game around 3 times, really interesting storyline, and great missions.

Ran with around 150fps on gt730. really good gameplay.

Really liked the office mission(25 tries), Chornobyl mission(30 tries), and farmhouse(25 tries) mission.

The difficulty is insane for veterans but that is why I play in that setting.

Really liked the office mission(25 tries), Chornobyl mission(30 tries), and farmhouse(25 tries) mission.

The difficulty is insane for veterans but that is why I play in that setting.

Great story, felt connected to the characters, that is how a game should feel like, an extension of a movie or comic that we are a part of. not just shooting.

The voice acting of price is really great, liked the weapons collection.

But one thing annoying at the insane/veteran difficult is that all the enemies only shoot me, not the teammates, and are really tough to kill, like hiding in the corners and only getting activated when I walk in, The rocket mission and farmhouse missions took like 20 tries before completing them.

But the rememberable story with good sound, the remastered looks good, but couldn't run it with my GPU.

A great game, that I will remember. Want other games like this that have good missions, and great stories that can be cherished rather than getting mad at why we bought the game in the first place.

Edit 2024:

played on rtx 4060 amd 7700x
played the new remastered version on rtx 4060 with max settings and ran around 200fps without issue
, the game is still good to play the only thing that is too madening is the one shot one kill mission(chornobyl),

the carousel mission where we have to fight off a entire army up until that i played with veteran difficulty but no matter how many times i kill most of the enemies

when i take the Macmillan to flight someone threw a grenade and i had to restart again, even tried hiding till the plane came still same thing,

so just lowered the difficulty to recruit and still tough but completed the mission, another draw back that the difficulty can't raise it again for the rest of the game is done.

completed all other missions relatively easy before and after the Chernobyl so good game but needs some tweaks to make more save points or more covers where there won't be 20 enemy grenades on you every time you move.

Doesn't Hold Up

Okay. Infinite respawning waves were annoying. I don't think it holds up well. 4/10 if you play it nowadays but I'm sure it was better at release.

Amazing

If it weren't for respawning enemies this game would be straight up five stars.

Infinity Ward's foray and VERY brief experimental phase ends up with a competent fps multiplayer and a just barely meets average campaign that to be fair holds a sweet surprise in its anti-imperialism sentiment.

For the campaign, you have stop and pop shooting done ad nauseam, but with decent setpieces and some cinematic wonders like the mission All Ghillied Up. I found the campaign to still be more of a monotonous grind but credit where it's due the writers snuck in some gold with the nuclear bomb, fiercely pinning down the Bush presidency's major foreign policy.

The multiplayer is good, but it's more like good in spite of a plethora of disgusting design elements. For one, killstreaks was never an interesting mechanic, it rewards snowballing and gives no counterplay for the enemy team. Awful trash that has spawned even worse incarnations later. That being said, the map design is top notch and there's incredible care into the perk and weapon system. It overall ends in a fps multiplayer that while has an almost too high TTK, still holds elements of strategy and interesting engagement.

Overall, COD4 is a middling affair, but it's certainly aged better than most of the other games in its series have. (6/10)

Refreshing difference from WWII even if it was a bit silly. Good multiplayer that would be vastly improved about in MW2
