This title is a cooperative action RPG with a strong focus on myth-making and replayability. Its pixel art style and atmospheric soundtrack create a distinctive tribal fantasy world that feels both mystical and inviting. The game’s central hook is how your choices, whether in dialogue, exploration, or combat, shape the legend of your character, turning each run into a short, personalized myth.

The game is designed for replay, with each run lasting under an hour and encouraging you to try new classes, tribes, and decisions to uncover different endings. Playing with friends adds a lot of charm, as the cooperative structure makes exploring the world and shaping the story together more engaging. This formula is perfect for playing with friends, and this title really feels like it was meant to be experienced this way, though unfortunately for me I played through it's entirety completely alone, which I would not recommend doing.

Playing alone is definitely the worst way to experience this game, and not a very pleasant one, since the classes have a lot of synergy when played together, to the point where some classes, while playing solo, are not really viable if not played to absolute perfection. And this is very frustrating since there are so many amazing characters and classes to play around with, but playing alone really makes this experience a very unbalanced one.

The experience can feel shallow after a few playthroughs. Combat is simple and sometimes unbalanced, enemy variety is limited, and the procedurally generated areas repeat themselves quickly. While the narrative framing is clever, the short length and low complexity may leave you wanting more depth. Overall, this title succeeds as a stylish and imaginative indie RPG that values atmosphere and storytelling over mechanical complexity. It’s best enjoyed in short bursts or with friends, rather than as a long-term, content-rich adventure.

Great Premise, Disappointing Ending.

When I started this game I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful artwork and soundtrack. I also found the storyline intriuging and was looking forward to uncovering the mystery of the moon's disappearence etc.

When I started this game I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful artwork and soundtrack. I also found the storyline intriuging and was looking forward to uncovering the mystery of the moon's disappearence etc.

And for the first few hours I really enjoyed this! Working out the different characters' abilties was fun, the world was engaging and mysterious, and again, the artwork and soundtrack are stunning. But after achieving a few different endings, and unlocking a few more characters, I was expecting the storyline to evolve somehow, to reveal new secrets and facets of the game. Unfortunately, it didn't, and this is the game's real flaw - repetition that feels really pointless. The maps and fights began to feel dull, the characters and decisions abitrary. This all came to a head when I got the 'good' ending and returned the moon to the sky... and nothing changed in the outer game world. It's a bit of a disappointment after such a rich beginning.

uhhh... The idea of a simple multiplayer action rpg was compelling at first, but they didn't really expand on that idea at all. Outside of the combat, the game is pretty much exactly the same as playing alone. And on the basic level this game really has nothing going for it, it got boring quick and then it just fell …

Moon Hunters has great music, I like the visuals a lot, and the combat is decent... though not exceptional. However, it's really repetitive and there's not enough content packed within to warrant playing through the same stuff. Sure, levels are procedurally-generated, but you still follow the same routine. Moon Hunters has great music, I like the visuals a lot, and the combat is decent... though not exceptional. However, it's really repetitive and there's not enough content packed within to warrant playing through the same stuff. Sure, levels are procedurally-generated, but you still follow the same routine. There's just not enough variety to make this a roguelike worth purchasing, and while the idea of you building your own myths through your actions to then have them live in the stars sounds appealing, it's pretty shallow. I didn't care.
