It fixes all of the little gripes from the previous title (escaping battles is much easier for example) and it adds in some powerful armors that you can obtain that enhance the fun and add an additional layer of depth/strategy. The story is better — longer, more exposition and interactions among the cast, more interesting — but still nothing mind blowing. The simplicity of it actually does the game a favor, as it’s a lean experience at about 17-18 hours including side quests (another new gameplay addition). The quirkiness of the dialogue and the plot’s fast-paced events (which are often made interesting not necessarily by the nature of the plot but really by how charming the overall setting and appearance of the game is) are really what you’re looking for in this title. It’s very nostalgic, but I think a newcomer could certainly “get it” just the same as someone like me who feverishly awaited opening the game up on Christmas of 2002. After playing the first two titles, I almost feel like they could’ve been a prologue to a much more expansive game in this fantastic little world Capcom has created. My understanding is that BN3 is where the plot really ramps up, so we’ll see in a few months or whenever I play that what my feelings are. Nonetheless this is a lovely title, slightly better than its predecessor that I also loved, and all of my comments directed toward that game basically apply here.
