A 3D exploration-focused metroidvania with first-person shooting mechanics and the first 3D entry in the Metroid series, Metroid Prime follows Samus Aran after the events of Metroid (1986) as she boards a Space Pirate frigate, then chases her escaping archrival Ridley into the intricately structured Tallon IV, a planet full of deadly wildlife and former home to the advanced and ancient Chozo race.

Finally finished it. Stellar game, I'll be gushing about this one for a while. Final boss wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, knocked it out on one go thankfully.

On to Echoes.

A week's break and hitting the fetch quest endgame has killed a lot of motivation for me. A fast travel system or a central elevator is feeling like it would have been a dream.

Hit 50% research the other day, it was a pretty good feeling. I really enjoy the scan system and I've found myself using it a lot to learn more about my surroudings and the lore of the Chozo. The controls have been getting a little frustrating however. When they work they're intuitive and incredible, but when the sensor wants to dick me around it is frustrating. I also can't free aim to save my life and platforming can be frustrating, in particular during one certain dark cave area. Despite this, I'm still feeling rewarded when I get through fights with barely a scratch and find a way across the platform puzzles.

It is a challenging game but it also rewards persistence.

I normally prefer having a game hold my hand and get frustrated when I don't know where to go or how to solve a puzzle. But there's something about this game.... Yesterday I spent an hour and a half backtracking and trying to figure out where to go and I didn't mind. Today, I spent an hour trying to get my bearings and figure out the path ahead. When I did it was so rewarding and I ambled ever onward in search of secrets and power ups.

The game makes me feel giddy, a feeling I haven't had for a game in a long, long time. It reminds me of when I first played Goldeneye on the N64 with the atmosphere, the music and how different it felt from everything else I'd played up until that point.

I'm definitely going to review this when I'm done.

So I finally said, 'Fuck it' and broke out the sensor bar, loaded some fresh batteries into the Wii remote and powered up the Metroid Prime trilogy I've had on my Wii U for the last 3 years.

Oh.

My.

God.

The controls took a little adjusting and getting used to but after a while they became intuitive enough. I …

The controls took a little adjusting and getting used to but after a while they became intuitive enough. I still can't believe this is a Gamecube game. No wonder it is so revered. I'm gaming without aiming for achievements and loving every second.

Well ok this might just be the best game I've played in my life. Damn this might even surpass Half Life 2 for me. Not sure though, because I haven't played HL2 in a while, but for now MP goes to the top of the list.

Holy shit this game is unbelievable!!!! I dropped it in the middle when I was a teenager but i guess I wasn't ready for it. I didn't like the gc control scheme at the time, but now I realize that it works perfectly in tandem with all the rest of the game design and think it's pretty great. Also when …

Holy shit this game is unbelievable!!!! I dropped it in the middle when I was a teenager but i guess I wasn't ready for it. I didn't like the gc control scheme at the time, but now I realize that it works perfectly in tandem with all the rest of the game design and think it's pretty great. Also when I was a teen I hadn't yet played Super Metroid (my favorite game after HL2) and seeing how Retro was able to shift that universe to 3D is just... wow. I think this might surpass Super Metroid on my list. Let's see about that when I reach the end.
