I'm just going to go with stream of consciouness with this.

Finished my replay of this. I'm honestly surprised that I enjoyed my replay of FE7 more than I did of this one because this was in my top 2 favorite FEs. It might have to do with the fact that I played FE7 on Normal while I played this on Difficult. And I also wasn't playing optimally with some of my unit choices. Still a really good time. I was planning on skipping most of the dialogue, but I ended up reading a bit of it and the writing was way better than I remembered. It's probably my fav story in the series and has really solid character writing. After playing Three Houses, it actually caught me off guard how good movement is in this game. There's probably two chapters in the entire game where movement might be a problem. I still think that this game has some of the most creative Fire Emblem chapters in the entire series (10 and 22 in particular stand out), but it also has some atrocious ones (25 and 27). I don't understand biorhythm, but its effects are negligible enough to be ignored. The worst part of the game that is way worse than I remembered is how slow it is. Even with animations turned off, it can take awhile to take any actions. It's even worse on enemy phase where you're just waiting for your turn. I hope Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn get enhanced ports someday because those are my two favorite games in the series and they are also the two games that suffer the most from the game running slow.

Excited to replay Radiant Dawn next.

Edit: I also wanted to note that this game has my favorite depiction of racism in video games. I can't think of too many games I've played where that's overtly a theme to begin with, but even so I feel like the way it's depicted in this game is believable and it's handled in a way where it matters to the story and the world building.

I am currently experiencing the worst Ike I’ve ever had on any of my playthroughs. I’ve had THREE empty levels. 🙃🙃🙃

I'm around Chapter 17 and I must confess I am positively surprised with this game. There is a HUGE step forward coming from The Sacred Stones in terms of storytelling and story depth.

I HAVE FINALLY GOTTEN MY OWN COPY OF THIS. I DID IT. Sixteen years after borrowing it from the library, I get to play it again.

Fire Emblem really knows how to knock you off your high horse. I get some badass units, steamroll a map, think I'm tough shit. Then a bird fucks all my shit up, kills half my squad and I wipe. Then I spend 50 turns trying to lure him out to gank him with all of my melee units when he's …

Then I spend 50 turns trying to lure him out to gank him with all of my melee units when he's in his vulnerable untransformed state. Then I find out there's an incredibly easy way to make him go away, taking all his lil birds with him.

It hurt me greatly to save the game after I lost three units in one battle. Jill, Rhys, and Marcia all fell to the cruel beaks of some asshole birds. I was really banking on Ike dying so it wouldn't be cheating to reload the save but unfortunately Ike critted like 3 times in a row and I have to …

Jill was awesome for the 2 turns I got to use her.

After nine long and bloody battles, I have lost two comrades and apparently murdered a potential playable character before I even got to recruit her. RIP Mia, Illyana, and Boyd. This game is great.

Death rides a pale horse. And is a red head. And is named Titania. I'm on chapter 7 I think and I really should just let Titania clear the maps on her own, maybe have Rhys follow her if she gets hurt.

So I was going to play FE1, since I never finished that game, but I quit because that game is just too boring. I decided to play this game again because I haven't played it in 4 years and I don't think I ever beat it. Currently on chapter 8, I got a long way to go yet.

I've been playing for an hour. I'd say 45 minutes of that has been dialogue text. That would be fine if it was written as well as the GBA titles, but the writing so far is pretty dull. I just hope things pick up soon.

I just bought Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance CIB... and I feel a little sick about it...

I guess it's good mental preparation for when I have to buy Suikoden II...
