@Sir_Laguna, I think this is a discourse that actually kind of rubs me the wrong way, and one I'm seeing coming from some journalists:
Astro Bot Has One Level That Puts Mario To Shame
PlayStation’s ‘Astro Bot’ Beats Mario at His Own Game

I know that Walker's piece (first link) is tongue-in-cheek, but I've seen the sentiment that Astro Bot gives Mario games a run for their money from multiple outlets, and I can't help but feel that this type of discourse feeds into the ongoing console war mentality. Instead of being excited that we have multiple fun games to play, there is this steak of competition that undercuts any kind of platform-agnostic celebration of gaming. It's not enough that Astro Bot is a fun game, it has to be better than Mario, or provide competition to Mario, to be worthwhile. I find that kind of comparative evaluation limiting, and even shortsighted. I know that comparing platformers to established platformers is a shorthand method of communicating to readers, but I think it restricts the discourse around the game to comparisons rather than more robust analysis.

This is one of the best Nintendo games I've ever played and Nintendo didn't even make it

Finished this today. There was no Gitaroo Man in this so I don't feel seen. /s (John Bloodborne and Joe Kurr are always nice to me though) Therefore, it's not my GOTY.

I was convinced to preorder Astro Bot last night. It didn't take much as I loved Astro's Playroom. Before I play the sequel, I'm gonna do some cleanup and experience the post-launch updates they released recently on the previous game so I may not get around to playing Astro Bot today but I will soon. I'm very excited. :))

The question that keeps lurking in my mind as the release approaches is this: will it really beat best game of 2024 Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom?
We'll see once it comes out. And I for one, am excited and a bit nervous that there's a chance that it could.

This is gonna be the best platformer game in history. I have zero doubts about that.
