A top-down hack-and-slash where Lucah must fight to reclaim their identity from the grasp of the Nightmare monsters that inhabit the dream-like land. Lucah: Born of a Dream features a hand-drawn surrealist artstyle and contains heavy themes relating to organized religion, queerness and suppression of one's identity through indoctrination.

This game has a fun combat system and a unique art style that gives it a raw, lo-fi feel that you don't often see. That minimalist style, however, makes the game's environments feel samey and nondescript in a way that is sort of bothering me. I don't get a sense of place or physical progression, it just feels like I am pulled from screen to screen until something happens. I hear later on the world gets more complicated, and I'm not sure how I feel about having to wander around this empty-feeling void with even less direction of where I'm going. This combined with the vague narrative makes this a tough sell for me, and I found myself tiring of it quickly despite enjoying battling new enemy types when they appear. Granted, I only played through a few distinct sections so far, but it was not the most inviting introduction. I imagine this alienating feeling was intentional, and expect many players will be captivated rather than pushed away by it. Worth a try for the combat and other positive things this game has to offer. I'll see if I want to continue later.

Has anyone summarised some of the amazing itch.io games that are free at the moment for the various 'stay indoors sales?'

From some that I've played and some that I've read about, I'd recommend:

Lucah Born of A Dream

Quiet As A Stone

Where the Water Tastes Like Wine

Gladiabots

Walking Simulator A Monch Club Vol. 1

Fugue In Void …

This AMAZING game is coming out on Switch on July 3.

If you didn't played it on PC, you should try it now. It's an amazing hack n' slash that mixes the gameplay of Bayonetta with Dark Souls elements and a deep, ambiguous plot about identity and and never-seen-before artstyle.

Really. It's THAT GOOD.

I think I'm near the ending and I have to remind you.

DON'T SLEEP ON THIS GAME. Is really a hidden indie gem. It's has an almost perfect mix of "platinum action" with From Software mechanics and obscure lore. Even if the visual style really bothers you you should really try it for some time. It grows on you.

Just started this and I'm loving it.

I think I'll describe it as a cross between Dark Souls, Diablo, The Binding of Isaac, Hyper Light Drifter and the artistic sensibilities of a talented angry teenager.
