85 hours in and I'm nearing the end, I think. The Lightning Temple was great, but the Water Temple was more on the "meh" side. Everyone's reaction when Link broke the news that I skipped ahead and found the Master Sword and [the other thing] already was hilarious. Time to avoid the main quest for another 10 hours!

For those curious about weapon durability, I have a fairly standard sword (above traveller’s, maybe soldier’s or captain’s) fused with a stone talus heart that I’ve defeated two Flux Construct III and 75% of a Frost Gleeok (I switched from a fire weapon I created that seemed to do a pretty poor job 25% of the way in) that’s still …

The weirdest design decision of this game is how bomb flowers can activate those big circular buttons in shrines. I feel bad for trivializing puzzles with this.

1000 hours later and I'm still going. Only done 2 of 4 "dungeons" (barely better areas to beat than the beasts or whatever from BotW). Just got the Master Sword, so I'm happy for that.

Two main things are bugging me:

1. There are a lot more map markers, X marks the spot (literally) and quests to guide you to locations. I know discoverability is lower in a sequel with a similar map because we already know much of the lay of the land, but this game has a lot more sign posting and hand …

Two main things are bugging me:

1. There are a lot more map markers, X marks the spot (literally) and quests to guide you to locations. I know discoverability is lower in a sequel with a similar map because we already know much of the lay of the land, but this game has a lot more sign posting and hand holding, and that brings it down a tad for me. I just got a quest to visit the Eldin fossil, and I miss that things like that were just elements you stumbled upon in BotW rather than were directed to.

2. I’m disappointed by the housing quest. It lacks the charm of the quest to repair your house in Hateno from BotW. That quest is one of my favourites and why I love Hateno. The building quest in this game is short, and the resulting home, while more customizable, lacks similar charm. Plus, are you going to tell me we have to live on a barren plateau devoid of trees and other flora? I miss my tree and cooking pot outside my house in Hateno. No amount of minor customizability makes up for the warmth I got from that quest.

Sidon didn't magically get huge when he was named king, which means Dorephan just looks like that. Which I think is awesome.

So for a while, my Switch wasn't telling me how many hours I was playing Tears of the Kingdom, just that I started playing it a few days ago. So for a while, my Switch wasn't telling me how many hours I was playing Tears of the Kingdom, just that I started playing it a few days ago. Finally today it told me how much I've been playing and... it makes me feel some level of guilt that I spend so much of my precious free time playing video games. My wife hasn't said it's too much yet, so until she stays, play on! haha

My girlfriend got me Breath of the Wild for our first Christmas together back in 2018. That's when I bought my first switch. 5 Years later, I picked up Tears of the Kingdom and we are 100 days until our wedding day. I have a strong feeling that this game will be a special one. I'll see you then :)

I like Tears of the Kingdom so much more than Breath of the Wild and I'm trying to figure out why. I think it's because there's so much more in Tears of the Kingdom. Breath of the Wild felt like it was just the world to explore, but Tears of the Kingdom feels like you explore the world, and the construction system, and the physics system, and the fusing system, and the rewind system. And it does a great job meting everything out at a pace to not be overwhelmed.

I love the story telling. Nintendo isn't known for their story telling in games, but this Zelda game having one adds to the fun of the journey.

Liking this game a lot more than Breath of the Wild. BotW was fun, but felt like a vast ocean that was only a foot deep. Very broad, not a lot of depth. TotK is now a full-fledged immersive sim. Liking this game a lot more than Breath of the Wild. BotW was fun, but felt like a vast ocean that was only a foot deep. Very broad, not a lot of depth. TotK is now a full-fledged immersive sim. Rather than relying on mediocre combat, the focus is really on the exploration. I also find it better guided and more crafted from a story perspective. I just finished the main Hebra quest involving the Wind Temple, which was a lot of fun just to reach. Also, Tulin is a super cute little parrot kid.
