Thoughts after finishing my first dungeon… Just finished the Wind Temple and its related quest. I think the sequence leading up to the temple was really well done and makes BOTW’s equivalent questline look soooo insignificant in comparison. Thoughts after finishing my first dungeon… Just finished the Wind Temple and its related quest. I think the sequence leading up to the temple was really well done and makes BOTW’s equivalent questline look soooo insignificant in comparison. The dungeon itself was really cool thematically but I’m a bit disappointed it still follows the Divine Beasts’ “find 5 things” roadmap. If anything, it was a little LESS interesting than a Divine Beast because it didn’t have the big meta puzzle involving adjusting the body/position of the environment. The boss was a big visual spectacle, which was cool, definitely a huge improvement on that front, and story wise I loved it. A little mixed overall on first impression, though.

I have to imagine this is what Elden Ring people felt like. I just spent my last 3 bomb flowers on a series of walls that led to absolutely nothing and then found an underground sewer where a gerudo woman had been sending out dozens of message-in-a-bottles saying "you! The voe reading this! We were destined to be together it's …

Got through the opening cutscene, but have had a very busy weekend and I haven't been able to do much past the first 20 minutes of the game. I'm really looking forward to settling down with this once things slow down and I can give it my full attention.

I'm enjoying this so far, but it's definitely inferior to its predecessor. Sticking objects together has already worn out its welcome and I'm not even out of the tutorial area. The controls do not have that Nintendo level of polish, and I'm really disappointed to see such unapologetic jank - although I'm loving the immersive sim vibes. Surprised, and not …

Surprised, and not pleasantly, that they didn't tone done weapon degradation. I'd forgotten just how much of a slog it was to fight with garbage weapons that break after half a dozen swings.

Doesn't help that the combat is frankly subpar by 2023 standards. Fighting in Breath of the Wild was never good to begin with, but it's a much more glaring problem here. Other developers have gotten drastically better at melee action over the last half decade, and it really feels like Nintendo have been left in the dust by modernity. The gamefeel isn't quite there, hits don't feel weighty or responsive. Not awful to play, but definitely a relic of a different era.

I'm having so much fun with this game. Video games really can take you to another world when the developers put some TLC into the product, and nobody does that better than Nintendo. They truly are the Disney of the video game industry.

Thoughts from playing the game all day:

  • I loved how lore heavy the game’s opening bits were. Great contrast to how Breath of the Wild started.
  • The game’s visuals are really beautiful, it’s obviously very similar to BOTW, but the new sky environments are truly gorgeous.
  • It was a nice touch that your horses carry over from your BOTW …

  • It was a nice touch that your horses carry over from your BOTW save file.
  • I’ve been so completely distracted by exploring the Depths that I haven’t even thought about touching the main quest yet.
  • I really like the changes to the weapon system and what Fuse adds to the table, but I don’t think it will change the minds of anyone who disliked how equipment worked in BOTW.
  • Where the heck is Hetsu? I need more inventory space!! Finding them is my #1 mission right now.

Oh man, when I'm at work and I haven't played a Zelda game in twenty years, and then my partner played BotW and stopped like 3/4 of the way through for some reason, so I don't even know what's happening. And this looks a lot like the first game anyways, shouldn't Link be some impressively powered demigod …

And this looks a lot like the first game anyways, shouldn't Link be some impressively powered demigod by now? So yeah, Zelda game everyone but me is playing. Back to my budget indie "metroidvania." lol

Lol, a construct threw a stone at me and I happened to be swinging a two handed stick (bat) at the construct and my bat connected with the stick for a home run! I love this game.
