Guilty Gear Strive Version 2.0 delivers a visually stunning and energetic fighting experience, backed by fluid animation and a powerful rock soundtrack that elevates every match. The refined combat system rewards patience and skill, while modes like training, mission, and combo creation help players gradually find their footing. Features such as the Wall Break mechanic and varied offline content add depth and keep fights feeling fresh.

However, the game demands commitment, both in terms of time and money. New players may feel overwhelmed by the busy on screen action and technical inputs, while the cost of additional characters and online access through PlayStation Plus quickly adds up. It remains an excellent fighter at its core, but one that is easier to recommend to dedicated fans than casual players.

I've played Strive since launch. I've bought it on 2 different systems, earned all the trophies for it twice, made friends through it, and practiced honing my skills for it more than I have any other competitive game. And yet, Arcsys managed to completely kill all of my interest of ever returning to it in a single, ungodly patch.

Easy to grasp gameplay for newcomers, Not so easy on visualgasm

Guilty gear Strive is my most played game of 2021 and for good reason, it looks amazing, plays amazing and sounds amazing, seriously, if there's was a game equivalent to spiderverse, this would be it, it's amazing. Guilty gear Strive is my most played game of 2021 and for good reason, it looks amazing, plays amazing and sounds amazing, seriously, if there's was a game equivalent to spiderverse, this would be it, it's amazing. I'm not gonna ramble too much, go read my gg xrd rev 2 review for that, but basically, multiply the amazing visuals by 10, the music by 20, the story by 0.1, and the gameplay by... well, this one is a little tricky. Guilty Gear was always a hard series to get into, it was hard, but rewarding if you put in the effort, guilty gear strive was made to be as easy and welcoming as possible, and if the game's sales are anything to go by, it worked wonders, it's simplified, explained in its amazing tutorial "mission" mode, and the training mode gives you everything you might need to train your combos and have some way to fight back against every situation. The story is strange, even for gg standards, it jumps from plotpoint to plotpoint without giving me a moment to breathe and understand, but I thouroughly enjoyed it simply for how incredible the models are... and how terrible the animation is... oof... harsh one ain't it? I still loved my time with this game despite the simplified gameplay, miniscule cast of characters, and not so good story, and I recommend it for anyone trying to find an opening to get into fighting games without a counter or a burst, good luck! Best moment: Mastering Giovanna. Worst moment: sitting through the tiring and boring story just to get nothing at the end... it gave me depression for a few minutes then I went back to the great gameplay.

Bullshit Blazin

Fun game. Not a huge fan of the soundtrack, but this game and this company continue to set the visual standard for fighting games.(Especially anime fighters). The game has solid combo mechanics, but isn't without its flaws. I still believe that I am more partial to street fighter, but this is definitely my favorite anime fighter to date.

I don't know how many people on here are into fighting games but am I alone in loving mirror matches? I hear people complain about them all the time, but I personally love them. If you're losing then you usually can see things and find new patterns and combos that you're not doing and try to see if you can apply them to your style, maybe adapt and beat the other player. If you're beating the other player, then you get a whole set of fun benefits. The satisfaction of knowing that at this moment you are better with your character than they are, the fun of watching as they try to adapt or do things you're doing, and usually still watching another player do things with your character you may not be applying. In summation Guilty Gear/Fighting games are fun, play fighting games, thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Battling the server

This is my first ever fighting game and I never knew Guilty Gear fans fought with the server as much as they did with other players.

I now can’t play this game for more than 40 minutes or so without having pain in my left thumb that is unfortunately starting to spread to the rest of the hand. My guess is that it’s an unfortunate combo of something about the PS5 controller/D-pad + this game being pretty intense + me mostly playing less physically demanding games in the last couple years + “90’s kids getting a bit older” syndrome. So now I guess I need to take a few days off, do some hand stretches, then learn how to play with the analog stick… God help me trying to play online with that. Lol

Fun game, looks great, online matches are running great, matchmaking is… borderline unacceptably broken? At least 2/3 of my matches today just didn’t work with varying error messages, and others don’t go through for whatever other reason. How this company still hasn’t figured this part out, I will never understand. The nicest thing I can say is that at least you don’t have to engage with their terrible lobby system and can sit in training mode while you wait for a match to go through.

So after about a month of being out I can safely say that Strive is hands down my favorite online experience in a fighting game. Solid variety in opponents, low amounts of rage quitting or bm, and the delicious unbelievably rich cherry on top, the best netcode I've ever seen in a fighting game. Giovanna has carried me to the gates of Heaven but I haven't quite been able to fight my way in yet. Being able to play people not just across the country but even in Japan or Europe, with no noticeable loss in gameplay has definitely helped give me a good mix of matchup practice. The minor issues I have with the gameplay and supplementary features are also completely eclipsed by how gorgeous it is to look at and how incredible all the music is. Cannot recommend highly enough to anyone who likes fighting games or is looking to get into them.

Great game, but that single player... Wow! Those are some unfinished rushed modes. What happened Arc?
