There is one thing I absolutely love about Titan Quest: it still continuosly gets Addons to the basegame instead of a remake. Many, many games that got a remake actually just needed an Addon way more than that, because their graphics still hold up until today and some new content would have been gorgeous (looking at my two favourites wc3 and d2 here).
So, although I love the fact that Titan Quest gets Addons, very ironically it's among those games of the 2000s that definitely need a remake. It looks and feels outdated and it's hard to grasp why people loved it even back then.
The combat is clumpsy, slow, superficial and unsatisfying. The map assets are stale and repetitive, the map and the dungeons without any points of interest and the looting is super meh.
One plus is that the dialogues aren't cringy, since they're mostly cringy in A-RPGs. They're not good, though.
I haven't played the Addons, though. Should I?
At long last I have finally finished the main quest line for Titan Quest. Overall I can say it's a very fun game. At times I felt that it dragged in certain places, namely Act 3. This was probably my own fault though for taking large breaks from the game which made it feel longer.
Titan Quest is the story of a player who starts off worse than dirt that gets wrecked by basic enemies that eventually ascends to become stronger even than the gods, by killing everything.
The enemy variety in this game is great. Lots of things to kill based in mythology. I will say that I appreciated it more in the first act, where the monsters were Greek, because I am more familiar with Greek mythology, but I recognized some monsters from the Egyptian and Chinese chapters. I'm not very familiar with any mythology, so things being wrong will have flown over my head.
The combat itself is standard Hack N Loot click the enemies until they are dead and use your abilities or chug a potion when needed. I personally played a character that was all about the passive bonuses, particularly damage and auto healing bonuses, …

The combat itself is standard Hack N Loot click the enemies until they are dead and use your abilities or chug a potion when needed. I personally played a character that was all about the passive bonuses, particularly damage and auto healing bonuses, and activated effects. I didn't really use the magic spells all that much, unfortunately. They seemed very interesting but not a good, to me, as just being able to hit things better and survive being hit better.
Graphically the game is nothing to write home about today, but still looks pretty decent for a 2006 game. It definitely doesn't look ugly unless you zoom in on some of the models. I appreciate the small details, like grass pulling back from you or small animals hopping around.
Sound design is alright. The music is decent enough but I had to listen to Spotify halfway through Act 3 because I was just getting bored of the game's music. The sound effects are there, the voice acting is OK. The characters don't sound like caricatures, most of the time.
Writing is pretty decent for a game where you just run around and murder things for loot. It's not a particularly deep or engrossing story, but it's fun and the way they tie four different culture's myths together is fairly neat. Sometimes the main storyline quest givers would monologue on for a little bit too long, but exposition and a silent protagonist kind of end up being that way.
I didn't run into many glitches. Besides one where if I right clicked in the upper left hand corner of the screen it would cause the game to become unplayably laggy. I don't understand, but I figure if I just don't, that would solve most of my issues.
Overall, it's a fun game. I doubt very much that it is the pinnacle of the genre, but as my introduction it's been very good. Now I'm on to play Immortal Throne, the expansion for Titan Quest.
So, still working on Titan Quest. Got up to Act 3 sometime last month. Haven't really felt an urge to play it, unfortunately, so my progress has been stalled. Mainly my time has been taken up by modding Skyrim, again and playing Smash, but I forcibly ripped myself out of the Skyrim rabbit hole, because I need to at least attempt an attack on my backlog. So, back to Titan Quest. I'll give it another good try and if I get bored, I guess I'll go to the next game on my backlog, the God of War series.
Thoughts on Titan Quest now that I haven't played it for a while: It's much better if you have a mouse with macros, because then you can just relax and hack enemies to death without worrying about being at the keyboard. Spotify is my best friend in Titan Quest. The music isn't very memorable, and to be quite honest, neither is the story. Game is still fun, so I guess I'll give it another whirl.
Currently running through Titan Quest for the first time. About 18 hours in and almost done with the first act on Normal with the Anniversary Edition. My initial thoughts:
This is pretty damn fun. I seriously wish I had gotten into Diablo and Diablo-likes way earlier. This is my first proper ARPG of this nature. I've played games with Diablo like elements in them like Borderlands, but I've barely played any ARPGs. I had played about an hour of Diablo II before this. How many times will I say Diablo in this status update on this Diablo-clone?
Jokes aside, this is a really fun game, even in 2018, for my very first ARPG. So far the 18 hours has flown by. I'm really looking forward to this 60 hour week to be over with so I can put some serious time into this game.
Things I like so far:
The Setting: Ancient Greece is always a plus. The world is honestly quite beautiful at times, even though the graphics are obviously last decade. The NPCs usually have fairly interesting things to say, particularly the story tellers located in most major towns. Minor complaint is that sometimes the pronunciation is a …

Things I like so far:
The Setting: Ancient Greece is always a plus. The world is honestly quite beautiful at times, even though the graphics are obviously last decade. The NPCs usually have fairly interesting things to say, particularly the story tellers located in most major towns. Minor complaint is that sometimes the pronunciation is a bit wack. Example being Minotaur being pronounced Minn-O-Tor as opposed to Mine-O-Tar. This might just be a Tomato-Tomato situation, but I always thought it was correctly pronounced Mine-O-Tar because of King Minos (My-nos). Maybe I'm just being pedantic here. At the very least there aren't 15 different pronunciations of the same word, sometimes from the same character, like in Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
The Gameplay: I'm killing and looting through mythological Greece. How dope is that? Pretty dope. I'm mainly focusing on getting passive healing items and so far have had massive success. Side quests are expertly paced. I've never had to backtrack or go out of my way to complete a side quest and no area has lasted for too long. I will say that all the caves and ancient tombs feel the same though.
Things I'm neutral on
The Story: The story isn't particularly deep or engrossing so far. It's there, but it mainly serves as a reason to go kill monsters. It's serviceable, and appears to be picking up somewhat now that I've rescued Whats-His-Face of the Order of Prometheus and am about to go fight the Telkine. It's a video game story. I will say that being in Greece instead of some generic fantasy world does make the story more interesting.
The Sounds: It doesn't really seem like there's too many interesting tracks that really pop and if there are then they get played approximately once before being retired. The sound effects aren't too stellar either, but are certainly serviceable.
Things I dislike:
So far nothing major, sometimes I feel like I died a bogus death, but that's usually my own fault because I overestimated how well my healing items worked. As I mentioned before, most caves and ancient tombs feel very samey, but how different can you make a cave? The overworld is more than excellent enough that it makes up for samey caves.
Looking forward to the rest of this game.
