This might sound like a "Well, duh" moment, but I played the story mode of this one for the first time today - I owned it YEARS ago, but only ever played Arcade - but I had no idea this game was both a direct continuation to MK Armageddon AND a reboot.

This might sound like a "Well, duh" moment, but I played the story mode of this one for the first time today - I owned it YEARS ago, but only ever played Arcade - but I had no idea this game was both a direct continuation to MK Armageddon AND a reboot.
Which is really funny, because Mortal Kombat 1 is literally just... The same general idea MK9 had. A timeline reset to the first tournament to avoid an apocalypse scenario.
You see it's like poetry, it rhymes.
But I'm not gonna write it off just yet. I know the general gist of MK11's ending, which has me interested in the 2010s Trilogy. MK9 looks and runs amazing on Series X - though the in-engine cutscenes and gameplay are noticeably higher quality than the pre-rendered ones. And I think the broader MK lore is interesting and flexible enough to allow for a sort of, "Repeating timeline with subtle changes that cause major changes later" storyline.
But Hsu-Hao will always be the worst character in the series.
