Despite pulling out some interesting punches right towards the end, and throughout the game as a whole, Orwell 2 still was just not as good as the first. Still an excellent game by all means, but I still preferred the first. Which is kind of the reaction I expected to have going in anyway, but yeah.

Thusfar it's a pretty damn decent followup, but it's hindered by two things that will likely keep it from being better than the first.

Thusfar it's a pretty damn decent followup, but it's hindered by two things that will likely keep it from being better than the first.

  1. The story. I've only finished the first chapter and, while it's been interesting, I just don't have as much interest in this plot so far as much as I did in the previous games, but we'll revisit this more once I've progressed and beaten the game in its entirety.

  2. The concept itself. Much like how Halo 3 was burdened by the mere fact that it was a sequel to one of the greatest games of all time, which in and of itself hurt it right from the get go because there was no way in hell the game would live up to the anticipation from the start, so is the same problem with Orwell. The first one was truly unlike anything I've ever played, and while I'm certainly thrilled to just have more of the same, it's lost a bit of impact because it ISN'T as original this time around.

Still, really solid in the first chapter and super excited to see where it goes from here!

Y'know, I don't know that I've been as absolutely absorbed and immersed and emotionally attached to a plot in a game as I have been to Orwell in years. It's been SO good and I'm so sad I'm almost done. Guess I'll have to pick up the second one.

EDIT: I fucking attached this to the second game. I'm an …
