Platform: Turbografx-16

It's one of the most famous vertical shooter series, and this entry is also one of the high points of hudsons shooter efforts.

It takes a lot of inspiration from Compile's Blazing Lazers, so much that Blazing Lazers is offten cited as part of the Star Soldier series. But since Compile is known for their expertise on creating awesome shmups it's a good thing this entry took more inspiration from them than from the first Star Soldier game. The 16 bit graphics are great looking and the game runs smooth. The powerup system is easy to understand but versatile enough to be interesting. It doesn't surpass Blazing Lazers, but mostly keeps up the high standards with varied enemy designs and themes, while keeping everything consistent.

There is little to complain in this top notch shmup, but don't expect experiments here. It's just no fills solid shooting action.

Highly recommended game and a must play for all shmup fans.
