I tend to avoid walking sim horror games as much as possible. I just don’t enjoy the slow meandering, meaningless gameplay, etc. I don’t see any advantage to the genre either, as you can still tell an amazing story without sacrificing the fun of actually playing the game. Well, Infliction still managed to keep me playing through the end, and I did end up enjoying it.
It’s a short 3-4 hour game, where you explore an ever-changing house and try to piece together the horrors that took place. There’s a few puzzles here and there, but mostly it’s just walking around and examining things. The atmosphere was pretty good, and I enjoyed discovering all the new changes when the house would transform.
The story is decent, but I just wish it was a survival horror game. There are some enemies, and you’re not completely defenseless, but it’s not really combat. If they had just made the game a bit more interactive, I could bump the score up… but this genre just feels like a waste of talent and will never surpass a 2 star rating for me.
You're gonna die. A lot. In fact, you die so much you actually contemplate necking yourself in real life. This is a really frustrating and tedious experience.
