Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake (1990)

Am I going to have a some weirdo come out of the woodworks to comment on my status if I say that I like Metal Gear 2 for it's retro stealth gameplay, soundtrack, art, and super weird moments like having an owl hoot to trick soldiers into thinking it's nightime, Dr Madnar's IRON grip, poisonous Zanzibar hamsters, or literally mentioning Konami by name, but really cringed at some of the sexist tropes in the writing esp with Holly?

That's basically the whole franchise tbh. In general, I feel that Metal Gear treats some of its women pretty poorly. Which I conveniently forget when I think about this franchise until I get into it and am reminded, "oh yeah, Quiet exists. Paz is creepily sexualized. Ugh." But then some dumb shit happens like a man strapped with bombs roller skates at me, a dude has the audacity to be named Hot Coldman, Kaz and Snake having a sauna fight, or literally the entire game of Metal Gear Rising, and I'm like "oh yeah, this is why I play these games."

No one has ever posted a status update on this game and that's a shame. I love Metal Gear 2. It's the first real Metal Gear. Sure Metal Gear 1 laid the skeleton, but Metal Gear 2 gave us the real beginning of this batshit franchise.

I desperately wish that both of the 8-bit Metal Gear games would be remade for the modern age, if for no other reason than I want to make someone play the whole franchise in chronological order so Every Metal Gear SpoilerBig Boss being the bad guy in 1 means something. Like that's so wild that, of the two biggest focal/turning points in the series, The Boss's death and her will, and Big Boss's betrayal at Outer Haven/The Fall of Zanzibar Land, the latter has never ever been revisited to be more in line with the 3d games. 1 and 2 basically exist in their own world and barely ever get referenced beyond BROAD strokes in the Solid series. Really I just want Gray Fox and Snakes "epic" fight to be more than Fox running in a square while Snake punches him.
