The game revolves around Solid Snake, an operative of the special forces unit FOXHOUND, who goes on a solo infiltration mission into the fortified state of Outer Heaven to destroy "Metal Gear", a bipedal walking tank capable of launching nuclear missiles from anywhere in the world, as well as rescue a number of fellow agents who have been captured by the enemy. I wouldn't bother to beat a game like this in this day and age though. I read several forums saying this game could be skipped because it was too frustrating and for the first 20 minutes, I didn't understand. I thought it was so cool to see these mechanics on a game so old and I was pretty engaged, but after a while the old tiring NES stuff popped up and made it super tedious. Like backtracking to make the game longer, practically unavoidable hits but very little health, random bullshit there is no way to know without looking it up in a guide, enemies that move randomly, weird hit boxes, etc

This would have been so amazing if I had played this even 30 years ago and it was my only game for a few months. But there's no story to miss here, and while the history lesson is interesting, it doesn't need more than a half hour of your time in my opinion if you have other stuff waiting to play.
