Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is the final canonical Metal Gear game to feature Solid Snake as the main character. The gameplay of the previous games have been kept along with some new features, such as the ability to roll on your back and also to hide in bins scattered around the environment. Most of the story and the relationship between the characters are explained through cut-scenes with a considerable length, so knowledge of the prior games is recommended to fully understand the story. The game also features a complex multiplayer mode entitled Metal Gear Online with some original missions based on the stealth aspects of the single-player games. Read less

Ya know, after finishing four Metal Gear Solid games, I'm starting to get the feeling that they might be anti-war...

I’m enjoying this one so much more than MGS3. I know 3 is a lot of people’s favorite but it’s my least favorite of the series so far. I could not get into the story, unlike 1, 2, and now 4.

4 is seeming like it will be my new favorite over 2 if it doesn’t take a turn.

I can't believe they announced the PC port literally 2 weeks after I finished it on emulator...

All that effort I went through to get the game to run, trying out different builds, waiting 2 hours to build shader cache, hours tinkering with the configs, having to deal with random crashes, poof, gone, just like that...

My Thoughts:

Wow. That's a really incredible and tragic wrap-up of all the events of MGS1-3! Even though the game feels more like a movie with the cutscene length, I actually enjoyed them all (asides from the info dumps)! Either they help to establish more feelings between characters and their motivation, or they're just flat-out badass like everything that has Raiden in it. Even the comical scenes such as everything with Drebin, Liquid finger-gunning, and the marriage proposal gun scene are fun to see. Sunny trying to perfect cooking eggs the whole game is wholesome to see too.

There are definitely a few things I've seen I rather dislike though.

  1. For one as much as the nostalgia throwback is mostly a strength, especially the final boss fight, I feel it's been a bit too overly done to the point it feels more like nostalgia pandering to me. There are constant flashbacks throughout the entire game just to remind you of that to the point feels akin to how modern Pokémon titles will always shove Gen1 references in your face (Which is precisely the reason I probably don't like Nostalgia pandering as much these days). Even the entire Act 4 is just a full revisit of Shadow Moses Island.
  2. What exactly is the purpose of the B&B girls again asides from eye candy and yet another MGS1 throwback? Easily the weakest villains of the series.
  3. This game overexplains some themes waaaaay too in-depth for me personally, in the same way that put me off from MGS2's story too. It's just a university lecture at this point.

It's really tear-jerking to know this really will be the end of Solid Snake after he carries out his final mission full of incredible emotional highs to this 'epic conclusion'

A great movie - I mean, video game! It took 7 years to find out what happened after MGS 2 and it was worth the wait. This has a lot of flaws but it's still a solid (hee) conclusion to the saga.

Metal Gear 4 es la culminación, en su momento, de la construcción mitológica del universo Metal Gear. Al mismo tiempo, es un tributo a toda la saga misma. Un deber jugarlo.
