FINALLY finished this. (I say finally, but it only took around a week and a half. I just...didn't love it.)
[Note: I was updating a previous status as I finished each route if you want those thoughts, but I'm transferring some to here.]
2 ✮ = it was okay
100% Completion:

Music: The music is pretty solid, and really suits the setting. Lots of jazzy mobster tunes. My favorite track was "Mistral."
Aesthetics: The CGs are reeeeally beautiful, and the character designs are great. There's a sort of cross-hatch effect goin' on with the backgrounds, which I didn't love at first, but it grew on me.
Story: Incredibly disappointing, especially for an Otomate/Idea Factory release. Only a handful of the routes even went into Liliana's (the MC) "role" and background. …

Story: Incredibly disappointing, especially for an Otomate/Idea Factory release. Only a handful of the routes even went into Liliana's (the MC) "role" and background. The Finale route just went way off into this whole other plotline. The routes were short compared to some other VNs I've played, which I'm grateful for because I just wanted to get this one over with.
In some VNs, apart from the common route before each branching LI route, there are overlapping scenes (or scenes that are similar but have different outcomes) because the story in each route is still related. In THIS, the characters don't even maintain the same personalities or motives across each route. While the overarching plot regarding the MC is mostly the same, the events in each route are quite different, but still don't contribute to a main plot as a whole because none of them feel "finished." It just wasn't done well.
(An example of my problem here is that Dante is genuinely a pretty solid, sweet dude, but in Orlok's bad ending, he
Edit to add: There also just wasn't much by way of narration. Any time Lili was simply narrating, it was like one or two sentences, never very descriptive or informative. It would be like, "Dialogue, dialogue, Lili says she went to the lounge, dialogue, dialogue, Lili says the town is lively, dialogue." There just wasn't much in between all of the dialogue.
Route order played:
Nicola → Yang → Dante → Orlok → (unlocks) Gilbert → (unlocks) Finale
Thoughts on each route:
Nicola:
Probably my least favorite overall. I don't feel like it contributed too much to the overall plot. Doesn't go into the MC's role at all, and it's just about the only route where Nicola is likeable. His personality is the most different across routes, basically just suiting whatever dumb plot point the writers wanted him to.
Yang:
He's the worst human of the bunch, but I liked his route quite a bit. It has one of the more solid plots to it, as it combines both information about the MC and a glimpse into the dealings of the Lao-Shu (Yang's Family). The Lao-Shu are the outliers of the three Mafia Families operating in Burlone, and are an offshoot of the Liu Huang Hui operating out of China. Yang doesn't give two shits about the parent Family, and just wants to do things that entertain him, whether that's annoying people or killing them. This is really the only route that actually addresses any Mafia-like business, as there are parts dealing with human trafficking and the distribution of drugs. There's minor stuff in the other routes, but this one felt the most like a "girl abducted by Mafia family sees what they do behind the scenes" story. Yang's voice is my favorite part of this entire game. He's absolutely fucked up but he's also my favorite LI.
Dante:
Dante's route is the one in which we finally get all of the information regarding the MC's role and why everyone either wants to abduct or protect her. I would have assumed that this would be the "true" route, and, even having finished the game, I'm still not sure why Gilbert's is the one unlocked by finishing the other four. Dante is a solid character. He's the youngest of the bosses and is running the Falzone Famile, which has the longest history in the area. His history is also tied to the MC's. In most of the routes, he's dependable and charitable, and does whatever he can to protect his family, the MC, and the town.
Orlok:
I was really looking forward to this one, but it was a disappointment. Orlok's route is the only one apart from Dante's that should have really explored the MC's role and gone further into that whole aspect of the story, but it barely even addressed any of it apart from Orlok's ties to the Church. Orlok's a good character though--soft-spoken informant/assassin who just wants to protect the MC.
Gilbert:
I will be honest that I wasn't really looking forward to this route. I didn't dislike Gilbert, but he was kinda whatever to me in the other routes (even though I adore his VA). He's the current leader of the Visconti, who formed by breaking from the tradition-bound Falzone (Dante's family) at some point in the past. His route was like a whole separate-but-not storyline involving counterfeit money, and he ended up being a good LI. The best part, though, is that, instead of dumb "let's get rid of the other families" happening throughout the route, all of the main characters were working together. It was a much better look into how they would interact with their varied personalities. There was also a bit more info about the MC beyond what we got with Dante's/Orlok's routes.
Finale:
So, this one is actually somewhat a branch from Gilbert's route. You do the first four chapters of his route again with some choice differences, and then it branches into the finale route. There is also technically now a sixth LI, but it's still more focused on the counterfeiting plotline than on a relationship. I liked this route because it went even further into the Key Maiden (the MC's role) and gave a bit more information about the previous one. It's just weird that the counterfeit money storyline is only present in Gilbert's and this route but does a better job at storytelling than the rest of the game.
Overall thoughts:
I don't feel like this game did a cohesive job of telling a story across several branching routes. The overlap was minimal, and only sporadic routes really even had anything to do with the promised premise. I enjoyed the art and voice acting. I liked the premise, but the game just didn't do it justice.
[Nicola, Gilbert, Dante, Yang, Orlok]
Finished this up tonight. do not think I do a review so overall it is an 8/10. Defentley had some pacing issues but overall I did enjoy that Finale route after finishing it up, and I can't wait to do the fan disk because that last route made me excited for it, however I do not know when that will be
Should be wrapping this up within the next few days, The
Finished
Finished off Dante's route last night (took me some time), and I was thinking of taking a couple of days just as a break before I go back in but I have stuff that i can watch in the background and the switch makes it so good for that. I start my one summer class on Tuesday so I have to spend time on that but I might work on some other games too like GTA 3 DE, Trails To Azure, and P3P, alongside Hakuoki. That all depends on how I am feeling. I liking the VN mood I am in right now so yea depends on my mood since I am doing school for the next month
I finished off Yang (
I've been updating my other status with review notes as I finish routes, but I have to say...this one has been pretty disappointing in one of the major ways that matter in a VN: the goddamn story. I'm sticking with it so that I can say I finished it, but for a legit Idea Factory/Otomate release? Mannnn.
I'm currently on the last route for the guys, but after that is the "finale" route. Hoping to have this finished today or sometime this long weekend, and a review up shortly after.
I just wanted to find a quick video of Yang to add to my review when I finish this game, because his voice/maniacal laugh are one of my favorite parts. This was the first thing to come up, so I figured I'd just share it instead of looking any further, haha. I love his drawl in this game.
Video is of the 5 love interests. Yang is the first one to talk. It's just then doing a skit in character, not a scene from the game.
A lot of the VNs that I've played have really fantastic voice acting. Gilbert's VA is actually one of my favorites (he plays Okita Souji in Hakuoki).
Editing this as I complete routes.
[1.8.2021] Well, first route (mostly) done as of last night. I got the best end, so I have the good and bad ones left. I'm going to do those (and the game overs) tonight to really finish up his route before moving on to the next one.
I'm hoping that the other routes go a little more in depth with the plot because this one was definitely lacking. 90% of it was the heroine saying "thank you" and wanting to talk to/see Nicola. It was pretty much an insta-love scenario, and that unfortunately got way more attention than any of the actual Mafia-related activities and main conflict. Yes, I'm down for the romance and that's a huge part of these VNs, but I do want some actual plot... I just felt like every small issue, and the main conflict, were all resolved in a very short amount of time.
The music is great, and really suits the setting. Lots of jazzy mobster tunes. The CGs are reeeeally beautiful, and the backgrounds and character designs are great.
I like all of the major characters...except Nicola, haha. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them. I …

I like all of the major characters...except Nicola, haha. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them. I do really hope that the overall plot for each route isn't the same even though everyone was present in this one. The lack of any real major events and how short the route ended up being is my only real complaint here.
[1.8.21 - 1.9.21] Wrapped up Nicola's endings and started Yang's route.
[1.9.21] Finished Yang's route and other endings; started Dante's.
-Yang's route is pretty good. He's definitely the worst human of them all, but a very interesting character. I had a few complaints about the story for this route, as the reason for everyone hating the Lao Shu (one of the reasons, anyway) wasn't actually their fault. However, there are a number of great characters that you barely see in other routes, and the plot has much more depth than Nicola's. Lot of problematic scenes, honestly, as pretty much any of the "wrong" choices lead to Liliana (the heroine) just
[1.10.21] Finished Dante's best route and played through most of the good ending before bed.
-Dante is best boi so far. You also finally learn a lot more about Liliana's role and why everyone wants to protect/capture her. Still some of the dragging slow points that were present in Nicola's route, but definitely a lot more happening overall, or at least more information. I'm not sure why this isn't the "true route," but there is a "finale" route after Gilbert's, so we'll see...
[1.11.21] Wrapped up Dante's stuff and started on Orlok's.
[1.12.21 -- 1.13.21] Orlok's route.
I dunno, man. I was looking forward to this one, and to getting more information, but, even with Orlok's close ties to the Church, there was less information about Lili than in Dante's route. Howwwww. Pretty disappointed in this one, honestly.
The bad ending was...really bad. Like, Dante's-a-sick-fuck-in-this-route kind of bad.
[1.14.21] Started Gilbert's route. Unlocked by completing the other four. Why is Gilbert the one being unlocked?? I don't understand why it's not Dante?? Gil's had a regular presence in the game so far, but nothing has indicated his is a more major role than even Dante's.
Started this up last night since I finished Collar x Malice and didn't feel like starting that sequel just yet.
The setting is 1925 in Barone, Italy, and the boys are pretty and speaking Japanese. As they do.
I'm going with the order recommended in the guide that I'm using, so Nicola is first.
So far... the music is really nice. The backgrounds are detailed and colorful, but have this kind of cross-hatching going on--which I didn't like at first, but soon realized suits the game.
My only quibble so far is that the writing isn't all that great. I got through three chapters and not much of anything has happened yet. The heroine has said "thank you" about 36,789 times and Nicola was pretty much immediately into her.
I like the premise, though, and everything else is enjoyable.
