Cult of the Lamb's primary gameplay loop is superb: Gathering resources through dungeon exploration and combat that you use to manage your cult is addictive and fun. My only quibble is with the randomized weapons. I know this is a thing in roguelikes, but I had to resort to save scumming toward the end of my playthrough when the game just refused to start me with anything other than hammers (slow) or daggers (weak).

While there's too much roguelike and not enough cult simulator for me, and the postgame is seriously lacking in content (although there's hope for some DLCs down the line), I liked this one!

More than the sum of its parts ( one part hades, one part harvest moon, one part animal crossing)

Really enjoyed this charming game. My wife and I played this together, passing the controller back and forth - her running the cult and me delving into the dungeons

Each of the three components (farm sim, roguelike arena battler, and social space decorator game) would be merely competent on their own but shine when stitched together in the this way. …

It was cruising into an easy peasy four star review until I was unable to finish the game due to some 'soft locks' - I would clear an area during the combat mode but be unable to continue.

That has rarely happened to me in my gaming career and while it's unfortunate, I feel like I got an excellent experience nonetheless - we were running out of things to unlock, to be honest!

The final boss is really kicking my ass!

I defeated the devil in Cuphead so I should be able to defeat him in this game too.

Well, he isn't actually the devil but who can tell the difference.

I tend to wait until I can get digital games on sale, or I can have a generous friend give me some love via Steam Family Sharing, but my lovely girlfriend bought me this one so we can play it together and she can watch. Its cute so far, though I'm curious to see how far the rogue-lite elements get pushed as far as variation and randomness goes. Obviously the game is mostly concerned with the management element, which is good by me. I just hope the actions sequences can be varied up enough to keep me eager and interested as the game goes. Hades (2018) lost most of its luster for me with its mostly samey runs, though that one didn't have the cute factor this game has, or the cult management sim either! Haha.

I usually almost always wait for a sale before buying games, but this one's intrigued me so much I may have to forgo that and play it right away.

Graphics and combat are great, but I'm not sold on the managerial aspect. I was whizzing through areas killing enemies and suddenly I need to forage for berries and cook meals? I don't know about that.
