While I am finally running into the repetitive gameplay loop that I’ve seen a lot of people complain about, it’s taken me over 40 hours to get to that. I put the game down for about a month, picked it back up, and now I’m hooked all over again. I do find myself skipping some of the cutscenes for characters I don’t care about though. I’m currently running through the stories for Cyrus, Therion, Tressa, and Haanit, and really can only care about Cyrus and Therion. Hoping that when I run through the other 4 characters there’s some winners there too.

Finished everyone’s Chapter 1 as of yesterday, and just now finished Therion’s Chapter 2. I wish there was a little more overlap in the character’s stories, but I do appreciate the little banter that starts happening after Chapter 1. Also, WOW there’s some odd level scaling issues in Cyrus’ Chapter 2. I was 2 levels over the suggested level and the dungeon of that chapter immediately obliterated me.

Got this in the mail today, immediately logged 3 and a half hours on it. I'm reeeeeally getting into this. Also, can we talk about how great the soundtrack is? The Frostlands track is beautiful. 7 hours in, loving it so far. The battle system is awesome, and the 16-bit feel makes me feel young playing great snes RPGs again, but with a modernized take making it more interesting. I love that all the characters have different goals that don’t merge, like 8 games in one. Sort of expanding on the idea of the individual …

So for now it looks like I'm going to juggle Octopath, Mario + Rabbids, and SSBU. Since SSBU is all played in bursts, it's not going to be a problem to mentally juggle that, because it's just a good action break from all the RPG/Strategy stuff. I usually only focus on one or two games at a time, but I got a new toy and splurged, so sue me.

However, I am now at the part where I struggle to decide who my starting character for Octopath is going to be. I'm leaning towards Therion or H'aanit. Therion because Locke is my favourite FFVI character (with Celes as a close second, because their little love story legitimately made me tear up as a teenager, I'm a sap, fight me), and I've heard Octopath brings back the old school FFVI feels, and H'aanit because I love pet classes...

Also, I got BotW, Octopath, and Mario Odyssey used from Game Stop (because B2G1), and got Octopath and BotW with crappy used covers, but my brother has a laser printer:

BotW and Octopath

So suck it with your garbage covers, GameStop.

I actually like the BotW one I found better than the original (even though it came out a bit small, and my skill with scissors is shitty, so that didn't help).

And yes, I realize that's a Therion cover, I printed a H'aanit one too. I'll put in whichever of the two I like better as a character in the end.

7.5/10 gameplay and storylines very repetitive. not even open exploration for a jrpg and map/dungeons were extremely repetitive and linear

I've been playing this for nearly 2 months now and I don't know why. I'm 50 hours deep and I just don't really like it. The combat system is great, but the overly long bits of dialogue and totally repetitive nature of it just weighs on it so much. I just don't see why it NEEDS to be as long as it is. You have 4 chapters per character, but I don't think anything about the game would change if you just did 3 per character. It just feels excessive.

Again, GREAT combat. Great job and skill system. Mechanically so tight. But I'm just so consistently bored at this point.

Why are people able to rate games in here before they are released? Octopath Traveler has a 2.67 for some reason...
