Started Mario Odyssey over the weekend and my son is absolutely loving watching it. I'm loving it too, especially all the retro 2D bits. Can't wait to play more.

I'm at new donk city which I think is about halfway through in only a couple hours of playing. Maybe it gets better as you go but I have honestly felt this game is okay at best. None of the moons feel even a fraction as substantive as a power star or shine sprite. The levels all feel sectioned off and linear. I will never understand how people disliked sunshine's blue coins when every single moon in this game feels about as significant as one of those. It's not exactly a chore to play but the more I think about my time with the game the less I want to go back to it so far. It just wasn't satisfying at all. It wasn't a chore to get through but it felt like the video game version of microwaved fast food, it gets the job done but why would I play this over a number of more fulfilling games. Perhaps it will pick up with time. We shall see. (Currently teetering between a 2 and 3 out of 5)

A spiritual successor to Mario 64, the open world approach to this game was absolutely wonderful. Prior to this, my favorite Mario game was Mario galaxy, which is significantly more linear, so I approached this with much trepidation.

However, this truly felt like I was on an adventure in each world, solving tons of tiny puzzles to get each moon! …

This game was shorter than I thought it would be for completing the main story. I was hoping it would be longer. I'm not sure if I will go and collect all of the Power Moons or not. Nonetheless, it was fun.

I might be done with Odyssey for now, at least for any serious play sessions. I've got 285 moons or so. The next big milestone is 500 moons, and I'm not sure I've got the energy to go get that many. It's getting kind of hard in spots, and I'm bad at video games as an old man now. It's …

It's getting kind of hard in spots, and I'm bad at video games as an old man now. It's a fabulous game, and I may pick up it up here and there just to get a moon or two. I doubt I sit down to play for any long play sessions anymore.

Definitely still a 5 star, top 3 Mario experience for me!

I'd post my screenshots here but there's so many of them, so I'm probably just gonna make a video of them once I'm done with the game.

Saw the credits yesterday on this. I started playing the post game stuff, and some of it is really freaking hard! This is probably my favorite 3D Mario at this point. I don't have quite the love for Mario 64 that a lot of people my age have, and as much as I loved 3D World, the Galaxies, and Sunshine, …

I don't have quite the love for Mario 64 that a lot of people my age have, and as much as I loved 3D World, the Galaxies, and Sunshine, I didn't get as hooked on any of those quite like this one. All I want to do is go back in and keep getting moons.

Nintendo is super on their game right now. I can't wait to see what they do with Metroid.

Still plugging away through Mario post game content and it's just as much fun as ever. This game definitely has the "just one more match" quality about it, although in this case it's "just one more moon," and it's been regularly keeping me playing into the wee hours of the morning.

Beat the main story, and was surprised to find that it only took 10 hours. I got so engrossed in the world it felt like so much more time had passed.
