Grand Theft Auto IV (2008)

4 ou 4.5 étoiles en 2008, difficilement 2 en 2024, sur PC tout du moins. Le jeu est truffé de bugs en tout genre (Obligé d'utiliser un patch pour faire tourner le jeu sur Vulkan plutôt que DX9 tellement ça rame, Path-finding des PNJ aux fraises, circulation infame dû à des apparitions random de voitures à la CyberPunk 2077, motos incontrôlables si plus que 60fps, clipping, impossible de passer la dernièrement mission sans bidouiller le contrôleur des taches windows etc...) et ce qui fonctionne encore à peu près a trop mal vieilli (systèmes de visée et de couverture, profusion missions inintéressantes demandant de traverser une map sans intérêt, scenario vraiment trop lent et finalement pas si profond même si les thématiques restent chouettes...).

Reste l'utilité des taxis est rend la navigation moins pénible.

Si vous êtes sur PC, passez votre chemin. S'il vous reste une PS3 ou une Xbox 360 sous la main, ça fait l'affaire pour un peu de nostalgie, guère plus.

Officially 50% in-game completion, I wanted to go for 100% completion but I do not want to do the collectibles so I think I'm going to do the other stuff that is required 100% and then just beat the game. The game itself is good (has some oldness with it being released in 2008) but I have enjoyed myself with the game

I got this for Christmas in 2008 and completed the game, including most side activities. However that was on my old xbox profile; when I first got xbox live I had to choose between my games for windows live account and my xbox account, not realizing that there was a choice to be made. In 2016 I decided to play the game completely again and made sure to show the beginning to my Eastern European girlfriend. I asked her what she thought of Niko and Roman and she said they are not speaking a real language.

I made a few slight changes on my 2nd time through but always drove in 1st person view both times. I messed around with the graphics settings to make the game much more colorful this time around. It was a completely new experience. The most important change though was neglecting the friends and girlfriends by turning off Niko's phone; I never knew you could do that on my 1st time. The worst part of the game was all these people calling me up wanting to do stuff when I was out trying to do my own thing. No video game characters, when I want something I will call YOU. I let Kate die the 1st time and regretted it because she is one of the few likable characters in the entire game. For the 2nd playthrough I let Roman die, but it sucks that you can't date Kate afterwards. Hard to say which death makes a better canon story. I dated Alex and Carmen the 1st time, but only Alex a bit the 2nd. I would never let Niko date a black woman; Carmen is bad enough with being latino but I liked the sound of that healing special. But it never worked. I don't know if I was doing it wrong but my health never recovered after calling her, so I did not even bother with her the 2nd time. The friends were only mildly useful and among the least likeable characters in the game. So I can't join the bad guys? I did buy guns and ammo from Jacob but the cost saving was largely irrelevant. I also marked the locations of weapons and armor on my paper map so I could get stuff for free. I actually used Bruce's helicopter ride once at the end of a mission to fly to the Statue of Happiness, which was outside the wanted area. Easiest escaping the police ever. Not that escaping the police was all that hard. My most used weapon was the assault rifle. Shotgun was good for close quarters and I am very fond of sniper rifle and rpg. In fact the rpg is an extremely important weapon to beat some missions. I often had to turn off auto aim because of its tendency to lock onto random pedestrians. I mostly drove the police car and have a few sports cars saved. I dressed up in the black ski mask, black leather jacket, camo pants and black dress shoes. I completed the most wanted, assassinations, import/export and probably other stuff I am forgetting. I even did the pigeons. Used a guide but missed 1. I ended up copying my save file to PC and using a trainer. It showed exactly which one was missing and I was able to get it within a minute. This is partly why I hate collecting stuff.

I loved this game and the entire setting. I explored the entire in game internet, watched all the tv shows and listened to the radio talk shows. The radio music sucks though. There was literally nothing worth listening to. No epic classical like GTA 3, Saint's Row 2 or Sleeping Dogs. No awesome classic rock like Emotion, Flash, V Rock and Wave. I ended up disabling the radio. Niko is the best GTA protagonist ever. I think Vice City and San Andreas are better games but I did not miss some of the more old school arcadey mechanics. 4 definitely has some jankiness in driving and shooting but is an excellent game.

GTA serisi benim çok sevdiğim bir seri değildir aslında. Özellikle şehirde kaos yaratmak filan. Lakin benim bu düşüncemi kıran bir noktası varmış oyunun. O da görevleri ve hikayesi. Oynamadan önce oyunu sadece kaos çıkarmak üzerine kurulu, tekrar eden görevleri olan bir açık dünya oyunu sanıyordum. Fakat öyle değilmiş.

Oyunun hikayesi benim dikkatimi çok çekmese de diğer GTA oyunlarından ayrı olarak karakterimiz bizden biri. Yani diğer karakterler gibi suç dünyasında olmaktan fazla keyif almıyor. Rahat bir hayat için Liberity City'ye geliyor. Onu çok seven bir kuzeni çağırıyor onu buraya ama onu çağıran mektuplarında burayı çok daha mükemmel bir yermiş gibi, bir Amerikan Rüyası olarak, tanımlıyor. Uzun sürenin ardından suç dünyasını bırakıp rahatlamak isteyen biz bu durumla karşılaşınca biraz sinirleniyoruz. İnsanların davranışlarının geldiğimiz ter olan Rusya'daki gibi olmadığı için biraz garipseniyoruz. Yani biz yabancıyız oralara. Daha fazla spoiler vermemek için devam ettirmiyorum.

Oyunun harika görevleri var. Çok çeşitliler ve sıkmıyorlar. Her görevi yaparken heyecanlanıyorsunuz ve istediğiniz görevler arasından birini seçebiliyorsunuz. Fakat görevlerin bir eksisi var. Görevleri tamamlayamayınca oyun sizi görevin başında değil geldiğiniz yerin başında atıyor ve bu durum çok sıkıcı olabiliyor. Bazen ta şehrin diğer ucuna onlarca defa gitmek zorunda kalabiliyorsunuz.

Mekanikler anlamında eksisi yok sanırım. Tok ve gerçekçi vuruşlar, gerçekçi sekmeler ve sesler.

GTA serisinin en önemli noktalarından biri araba kullanımıdır. Lakin GTA 4 de fazla gerçekçilikten kaynaklı olarak gereksiz kayan veya sanki bir noktaya çarpmayacakmış gibi ilerlerken aniden savrulma sebebiyle çarpmalar yüzünden araba mekanikleri biraz sıkıntılı olmuş. Bu herkes için bir sorun değildir ama beni biraz rahatsız etti.
