I've been playing Red Dead for a long time, but yesterday my partner showed me a feature in the online game that I hadn't seen before and loved it. It didn't involve shooting, or any kind of violence, it was the ability to hire a skiffle band to perform in your moonshine bar. Not only can you request them to play music, but you can also ask to join in and take up an instrument. You can also dance as people talk and drink around you. It's such a wholesome feature.

I can't describe why I love this part of the game so much but it's really cool to be able to step back in time and appreciate some genuinely impressive music. Maybe it's because during this time, family, friends, and good times are all most people had and deep down it's something that connects with us all. Rockstar have nailed the atmosphere, I love how the place feels alive. When using an instrument, the player model sways and smiles, you can even flourish, twirling around whilst playing.

There's real heart and passion here, a sense of community and belonging, hidden away in a small section of the game. I wish more of this stuff was present, activities and actions where you felt part of a community, where NPCs would smile at you, laugh, and welcome you in. It's a togetherness I can't quite describe but it feels great here. Music heals the soul!
