Neon Chrome is a ruthless top-down cyberpunk shooter with rogue-like elements. The game takes place inside an arcology – a massive sci-fi mega structure. Every gaming session is different as large parts are randomly generated. Blast your way through walls with guns and cybernetic abilities and try alternate approaches with different roles like the Hacker or the Cyber Psycho. Upgrade your character stats, discover new cybernetic enhancements and build up strength to finally stop the Overseer. Every death is a new beginning – the path to stopping the Overseer is never the same.

Terinati's review of Neon Chrome

It's like old-school Gauntlet, with a cyberpunk theme. I actually found it to be a pretty good "chill out on the couch" game, for when I'm looking for something arcade-style that doesn't demand a lot of planning, mental attention, or emotional commitment.

You die a lot, but there's continuity between deaths - you keep all credits earned during a playthrough and between each playthrough you can spend those credits on permanent upgrades that apply to all new clones/agents on subsequent playthroughs.

The narrative is super simple and not really a selling point of the game; perhaps it makes it a more chill arcade-style experience.

Levels are procedurally-generated, and once you beat the "end boss" you can start over on a newly-unlocked higher difficulty with greater loot rewards (and all the upgrades you've purchased), making for fairly high - though repetitive - replayability.

Great fun in local co-op.
This review is for the PC (Microsoft Windows) version

Game only progresses after a set amount of levels that culminate with a boss that has to be beaten. Die and you have to repeat all the previous levels, loosing your character and guns, forcing a random generated new playthrough. Not cool.

Some borderline frustrating bosses. A better tutorial would help the random testing with the limited resource gained after a defeat.

Still recommended for those with lots of time and patience.

Fun top-down shooter, but could have done with a bit more story. Cyberpunk theme is a bonus.
