The game is rooted in Greek mythology and unfolds in ancient Greece, revolving around the theme of vengeance. The protagonist, Kratos, is the new God of War, having defeated the former, Ares. However, Kratos is betrayed by Zeus, the King of the Olympian gods, who not only strips him of his godhood but also kills him.

God of war 2 is a 2007 cut-and-shoot, action and adventure game. The game's producer, SCE Santa Monica Studio, and its distributor, Sony Computer Entertainment, have done a great job.The story of the game is as follows. The new God of war after Ares' death is Kratos, theis is still haunted by the nightmares of his past and is shunned by the other gods for his destructive ways. Ignoring Athena's warnings, Kratos joins the Spartan army in an attack on Rhodes, where a giant eagle suddenly drains a large part of his powers and uses it to revive the Colossus of Rhodes. While fighting the statue, Zeus presents Kratos with the blade of Olympus, a powerful sword that Zeus used to end the great war, requiring Kratos to fill the blade with the rest of his godlike power. Despite being mortal once again, Kratos defeats Colossus, but is mortally wounded. The eagle reveals that it was Zeus who said he had to intervene because Athena refused to do so. Zeus then gives Kratos one last opportunity to be loyal to the gods, but Kratos refuses. Enraged by his defiance, Zeus kills him with a knife and destroys the Spartan army. Kratos gradually drifts into the underworld, but is rescued by the Titan Gaia. Gaia tells Kratos that she once raised the young Zeus, who betrayed the Titans as revenge for the cruelty inflicted on his brothers by Zeus's father Cronos. Fate has instructed Kratos to prevent death, to find the "sisters", who can change the time, and take revenge on Zeus. With the help of Pegasus, Kratos finds the lair of Typhon, Gaia's brother. Imprisoned under a mountain, Typhon becomes enraged at Pegasus' invasion and traps, forcing Kratos to explore on foot. Kratos encounters the Titan Prometheus, who is mortally chained and tortured by Zeus' order to set fire to humanity. Prometheus begs to be freed from his torture, so Kratos confronts Typhon to steal his magical bow. To escape, he blinds a huge Titan, and then uses it to free Prometheus, who falls into the fire and finally survives eternal torment. Death unleashes the power of the Titans, which Kratos absorbs, uses it to free Pegasus and then fly to the island of Creation. Just before reaching the island, Kratos fights and kills Theseus to awaken his gigantic stone horses, a gift to the sisters of Cronos' destiny to change their own destiny, which gives Kratos access to the island. There, Kratos encounters and defeats several enemies, some of whom are also searching for the sisters of destiny, including his old enemy, the barbarian King, the Gorgon Euryale, Perseus, and an immortal version of Icarus. Eventually, he encounters the imprisoned Titan Atlas, who is angry with Kratos for his current situation. After Kratos announces his intentions, Atlas reveals that Gaia and the other Titans also want to take revenge on Zeus for their defeat in the Great War. Atlas also reveals that the Blade of Olympus is the key to defeating Zeus and helps Kratos reach the "Palace of fate". After escaping the traps and defeating more enemies, including the Kraken, Kratos encounters an unseen enemy, who turns out to be a loyal Spartan soldier in search of the sisters. Before dying, the soldier informs Kratos that Zeus destroyed Sparta in Kratos' absence. Enraged, Kratos becomes even more motivated and frees a Phoenix, taking the creature to the sisters' castle, where he confronts two, Lakhesis and Atropos. After they refuse his request to change time, Kratos fights them. Meanwhile, the sisters try to change the outcome of Kratos' Battle with Ares, but Kratos kills them both, then confronts the remaining sister Clotho. He kills her using his own traps, in order to return her to the point where she betrayed him, Zeus bought the "Loom" of "Destiny". Kratos surprises Zeus, seizes the blade of Olympus and finally incapacitates him. Athena intervenes and begs to stop Kratos, as he will destroy Olympus by killing Zeus. Kratos ignores her and tries to kill Zeus, but Athena sacrifices herself by falling on the blade, allowing Zeus to escape. Before dying, Athena reveals that Kratos is actually the son of Zeus. Zeus feared that Kratos would usurp him, just as Zeus had usurped his own father Cronos. Kratos declares that the reign of the gods has come to an end, then travels back in time and saves the Titans just before their defeat in the Great War. Together with the Titans, he returns to the present, and the gods watch their old enemy climb Mount Olympus. Standing on Gaia's back, Kratos declares that he has brought the destruction of Olympus. The gameplay is as follows.in this game consisting of 20 episodes, you are trying to kill the creatures and pass the episode. The music of the game is beautiful. If you are not too obsessed with graphics and you like retro games, this game is for you.My rating for the game: 10/10 (y) Good games to everyone 🙂

The saga of Kratos continues with lots of blood, shouting and QTEs. Kratos loves to yell, almost as much as he likes brutally murdering folk. This doesn’t necessarily make for a likeable, relatable protagonist, but it sure as hell makes for a good time. This game plays much like the first, except it emphasises the use of magic and there are far more boss fights, most of which are a blast. There are a few new ideas like some on-rails Pegasus sections and some new power-ups (you gotta have that Golden Fleece!). Oh, now he can hang from the ceiling instead of just climbing up walls, which doesn’t seem like a big deal, but for some reason this game loves to make you do it. I really wish I could send a letter through to time to let them know that it really isn’t as cool of a mechanic as they think it is. It doesn’t matter though, this game is a lot of fun and it sets up what I imagine is an absurdly over-the-top sequel. The only problem I really had with this game was the plot. It is very entertaining, but by expanding the scope of the story they lose the simple elegance of the original’s character-driven tale of revenge. Still, a damn fine sequel.

Kratos returns after a fulfilling effort in 2005 with the first God of War sequel. God of War II doesn't change up a lot at all, with a lot of UI elements and mechanics virtually untouched since the first title. This doesn't in any way work against the game, though. Almost everything that made the first game great is improved upon, and the few new things that are introduced play their part in making this game even better than the original.

Along with the classic chain-sword slinging action that made the first game such a success, God of War II adds three total sub weapons, all with completely new gameplay styles, reworked spells, and new parrying system. You're more offensively potent, and defensively formidable. After collecting the Golden Fleece, you can even parry projectiles back at attackers. This adds a great new tactic in combat, and an occasional tool in puzzle solving as well.

The game handles most encounters in a much more fair way than the first game did, as well. You'll have fewer instances where you're stun locked, and overall, the monsters just feel slightly better designed. Now whether this is due to me having an entire game to get used to the nuances of the combat or it truly is better designed, I'm not completely sure, but I know there were overall way fewer unfair sections in this game. That goes for the platforming, as well. Every area feels very carefully made to maximize your fun and wonderment.

On the topic of design, the world building in this game, I think, far surpasses the original. As is the God of War format as of this point in the series, you have an opening boss battle in a major Greek city, go through some transitional areas, and then spend the bulk of your time in one huge destination. This time, instead of Pandora's Temple, you're spending most of the game at the Isles of Creation. Suffice to say, they're absolutely beautiful. From the second you see them in the distance from the Steeds of Time to when you first set foot inside the first temple, the use of color is staggering. The game is truly beautiful, and could pass as a PS3 launch title in some places.

Thanks to the locales visited, the game also doesn't suffer from the same visual repetition of its predecessor. Whether it's city streets, ice caves, swampland, the underworld, you name it, there's variety everywhere. The music remains as consistently solid as before, and the story is a direct continuation, involving more god killing glory. Kratos continues to display a completely despicable side while still giving the player justifiable reason to want to see him succeed. It's a story that exists purely to launch the gameplay forward, but in the best, most enjoyable way.

All in all, God of War 2 exceeds expectations. It mops up some of the issues of the first God of War, all while developing a gorgeous world for you to systematically shred to pieces. The extra features such as gameplay altering suits and bonus modes make it fun to play again and again, as well. The game deserves the praise it got on release, and continues to be an absolute joy to this day, albeit if it still at times has the same feeling of repetition at times.
