Granblue Fantasy is a Japanese role-playing video game. The game plays as a traditional Japanese role-playing video game with turn-based battles. The game also contains summons and a class system that alters the main character's move-set and growth. Characters gain levels and abilities by accruing experience; summons and weapons equipped also confer characters with bonuses on attack power and HP. The characters themselves are gained either via quests (the main story quests or special event quests) or by using in-game currency to receive random crystal fragments, which may contain special weapons that add specific characters to the party. Voice actors provide voices for all of the characters in battle, and for much of the main and event storylines. Less

The Granddaddy of Gachapon

One of the first truly popular gachapon mobile games out there and it shows.

The Good: Because of it's age this game is more focused on real story and feeling like a 'real' game, with voice acting, narrative progression, story characters, and various features in this direction. Also this game now needs to be played on a browser (here in the West) at least as it is no longer in the app store, and this seems like it should be a con, but not having it take up phone resources and always being right at my fingertips (as long as I have internet) actually feels pretty good. No load times, no lag, no storage. Just click and go.

The Bad: Have I mentioned this game is old? The graphics are a bit dusty, the game lacks some QOL features in modern gachapon mobile games, and the whole thing flows less easily than more modern games. Also, as someone playing in the West, it is pretty complicated (compared to other mobile games) to actually spend money here if I want to. I would have to use PayPal through a Japanese website to buy the premium currency they sell. So when I …

I would have to use PayPal through a Japanese website to buy the premium currency they sell. So when I hit that usual gachapon progression wall, and I was interested enough to spend a few dollars, the process of actually moving that money around was too daunting for me right now.

The Verdict: The barrier of entry is so low I say go for it if you have the time and inclination. Just be aware if you want to move beyond FTP then there are extra steps towards spending that money, including the necessity of a PayPal account if you are here in the West.

It is a sad day, after years of playing this game... it is time to quit. TLDR;

  1. Company turned too greedy with their scamcha
  2. Poor development of content that went for years; it started post-subhl, but it finally halted since faa0's release
  3. Progression is stagnant, imbalanced, lacking
  4. Too many pointless "content", with no serious investment in the current base...
  5. 2025's anni stream, with artifacts and the way the game is heading...
  6. Company does not listen at all and absolutely do not cater for gaijins.

Ultimately, it is not fun anymore. It is time to move on—and partially motivated by WuWa, a game where devs actually listen, and introduce QoL and upgrades at a rapid pace—, to other games for other companies where they care :)

Thank you, GBF was fun while it lasted. Luckily, I met some great people I can call them friends, and I'll remain hanging out with them.
