Expanded Versions of Monster Hunter G
3.47 average rating based on 87 ratings
Yes, it's definitely much rougher than the more recent ones, but Monster Hunter Freedom holds that special place of being the first (definitive first generation) Monster Hunter. What makes it so likeable, for lengthy load times, frustrating hitboxes, and a system so hellbent on multiplayer that not even the strongest weapon can hold out at the end game?
The thrill of the hunt and the originality of this premise is invigorating, with a focus on gear and items over action gameplay that takes awhile to sink in but truly rewards the player for preparation. The game is hard (as heck, especially this one), but isn't nearly as focused on frightening the player; it helps every step of the way that it can, and multiplayer really takes the stress off.
For those playing in these days, you might as well hack the game to your preferences, as the online community is long gone. However, it remains a good start on a great series.
