The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the first 3D open-world game in the Zelda series. Link can travel anywhere and be equipped with weapons and armor found throughout the world to grant him various bonuses. Unlike many games in the series, Breath of the Wild does not impose a specific order in which quests or dungeons must be completed. While the game still has environmental obstacles such as weather effects, inhospitable lands, or powerful enemies, many of them can be overcome using the right method. A lot of critics ranked Breath of the Wild as one of the best video games of all time. Read less

Been playing Breath of the Wild again for a few weeks now (started over now that I have both DLCs and a Switch instead of a Wii U). It's still easily in my top 5, and I still find myself enjoying trying to get almost everything (except those 900 little golden poop goblins, because no...) It's one of the few games I see myself actually going for completion (again, other than koroks) and following through. Almost definitely the only one that is well over 100 hours of content.

I'm nearing the end of the Champion's Ballad content. The One-Hit Obliterator section sucked. I barely used the Obliterator, and I got killed by a bunch of cheap tricks (including Bees), and I was already kind of in a bad mood, by the end of that section, I was starting to regret getting the DLC.

However, now that I'm through a few of the Shrines outside the Great Plateau, and have the wondrous cooldown reductions for some of my Champion abilities, I'm loving the DLC. Being able to recharge Revali's Gale every 2 minutes is SO good.

Horsecycle, here I come!

I never saw much point in picking up a Switch at launch given that the biggest game to launch on it was going to be coming out on the Wii U which I already had. Well, I finally got a Switch (read my girlfriend bought me one) and picked up Breath of the Wild (read, she bought Breath of the Wild) so I've been playing through the game again and my god, I'd forgotten how great it was. Here's to around 100 hours of my life going into this game.

Anyone ever curious what Breath of the Wild's world would look like if not cell shaded?

Decided to replay it in Master Mode to celebrate the game's 2 year anniversary last Sunday, and I thought I would only muck about for a bit, I was wrong. When I first played the game, the sense of awe was so incredible, but when I finished the game I thought that even though this was probably one of the greatest, if not the greatest game I've ever played, it was probably not the most replayable. Allow me to explain, the game has such an incredible way of surprising you all the time, that it seems at first that replaying wouldn't work because you know what's coming. Well first of all Master Mode is far better than I thought, because not only does it make the game more challenging, it changes the way you play. You have to be much more careful, and there are new enemies set up and traps around every corner. Even the dreaded Guardians have changed their beam timing, making it far more difficult to parry them correctly.

Having said all that, even the familiar elements are still delightful and I feel more like I'm appreciating the incredibly careful design the Nintendo devs have put in here.

Still a masterpiece and I highly recommend Master Mode if you haven't played the game since launch.

I don't know why I haven't watched Mark Brown's video on Breath of the Wild before today, but boy does he ever hit the analysis out of the park with this video. He perfectly explains why Breath of the Wild lead me to do something I rarely do, declare a single game my favourite game of that particular year.

I have now defeated 3 out of 4 Divine Beasts and am firmly in the "fan" category now. Exploring all over the world and finding details of characters who offer specific trades from across the continent and speak of recipes for their village's specialty dish, in many ways it feels like a game that advocates for travel and the simple joys that can be found in exploration alone. I don't feel like I can stay with the game for too much longer however, I have other games I want to play and the joy of exploration fades somewhat over time. Exploration can require unfamiliar lands to explore and those are growing finite for me. However, I think a game like this should take pride in the fact that most players will only experience about 30% of the total content, and that's okay! If all of the content is fun, and fits with the aesthetic goals of the game then every player can have a unique, yet still firmly "Legend of Zelda" experience from the game.

Well it took only a month for me to break down and buy Breath of the Wild for the Switch. Looking forward to sinking more time into it :-)

I've officially gotten absorbed in Breath of the Wild. The exploitative nature and creative problem-solving of the game is an absolute joy. Highlighted today by finding an orange orb, looking over a cliff to clearly see it's rightful home at the middle of a beach spiral surrounded by enemies of all kinds. Carrying that across the entire spiral was a TRIAL to say the least, but gave a greater deal of ownership that most Zelda dungeons I've encountered in the past. The ownership that comes with exploration is fully explored here.

9.3/10 gameplay/exploration was a delight throughout the whole game. story was garbage but that was to be expected.

Last played in Feb, continuing was fine after small readjustment. Note to self: follow main story more before wandering off. Again.
