The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the first 3D open-world game in the Zelda series. Link can travel anywhere and be equipped with weapons and armor found throughout the world to grant him various bonuses. Unlike many games in the series, Breath of the Wild does not impose a specific order in which quests or dungeons must be completed. While the game still has environmental obstacles such as weather effects, inhospitable lands, or powerful enemies, many of them can be overcome using the right method. A lot of critics ranked Breath of the Wild as one of the best video games of all time. Read less

100% completion...in normal mode! I can't believe I decided to do everything there was to do in this game and actually do it. One day I'll do it all again, this time in master mode.

So I'm in quarantine. Just a small cough, probably just the common cold, but my boss is adamant I work from home. (Probably for the best & no complaints from me). So I'm in quarantine. Just a small cough, probably just the common cold, but my boss is adamant I work from home. (Probably for the best & no complaints from me). When I'm not working, I'm passing the time by making a ton of progress into my first Breath of the Wild play-through. For the first 10-15 hours I wasn't really sure what all the hype was about. It was fun & certainly different than other Zelda games but it didn't really WOW me nearly to the extent it seems to have for everyone else. Now that I'm about 50 hours in, I'm really starting to fall in love with it. Still have a long way to go, but who knows, if I'm quarantine for 2 weeks I should make a ton of progress.

How are you guys dealing with the social distancing? Anyone else in quarantine? What games are you playing to pass the time?

I did it again. I accidentally walked into Ganon’s sanctum and triggered the final boss fight. I did that the first time I played the game. This first time I was looting the castle and I wandered down a corridor into the sanctum. This time, during this replay, I was wondering around the outside of the castle fighting guardians and …

I did it again. I accidentally walked into Ganon’s sanctum and triggered the final boss fight. I did that the first time I played the game. This first time I was looting the castle and I wandered down a corridor into the sanctum. This time, during this replay, I was wondering around the outside of the castle fighting guardians and Lynels when I stumbled into the sanctum from without. I swore I wasn’t going to do that this time but did it nonetheless. Good job me!

After a bit of Molduga hunting last night I’ve had this ditty in my head all day.

Ok, so there are bears in this game? Were there always bears or were bears patched in sometime after release? Because I just found my first bear, three years after I beat this game.

So I had my first significant rematch today. The first time I played BotW, I encountered a red Lynel near the Lanayru Road East Gate. Needless to say he handed me my ass on a platter the first time I got there. I had no idea what to expect. After learning what I was dealing with I ran away and sneaked around him to continue on my journey.

Well this time I knew he'd be there, and I walked straight up to him in my full five hearts worth of glory. And if you're guessing that he handed me my ass again, you'd be incorrect. I damn well destroyed almost every weapon I was carrying (almost because my last weapon was a Korok leaf, lol). But this time I went in armed with my memory of how to effectively dodge and then rush attack. It took a while, because my weapons were pathetic, and it took all of them plus a healthy amount of arrows. But now here I am with five hearts, a basic set of armour and a bunch of decent Lynel gear way above my current general level. It feels good.

This game is a wonder. I thought that I might not enjoy it as much the second time around, or that my enjoyment would rest on nostalgia for my first play through, but I've already discovered little things I missed in areas I previously thought I fully explored. It’s my great shame to say that while I did spend many hours playing BOTW with my kids, I didn’t actually spend that much time playing myself and didn’t beat the game.

While I put 40 hours in across three saves (my two kids and my own), I really didn’t get the game. I never had the urge to play, but rather played to make progress because I wanted to make sure I could help the kids when they had problems.

Suspecting I was wrong and not every gamer ever, I wiped my save and started over. I'm not yet caught up to my previous progress, but I've already found myself in work meetings yearning to pick up the Switch to get a little further, cook something, or explore a new area. I've paid much better attention to the various systems in the game and am even getting muscle memory for the controls (however, using the L3 button for crouch is still the absolute worst). Plus, I've accepted that the Switch is purely a mobile device for me and am playing the entire game handheld in glorious 720p.

I have no idea if I'll spend the 200 hours the game deserves, but I'm enjoying myself much more now.

Sure, i could be playing other games in my backlog, but this was calling to me yesterday and I think I'm in for the long haul again. I love this game.

Tempted to finally start my Switch play through. I have other un-played Switch games in my backlog, but this is calling to me. Maybe this is what I'll be playing after I finish Sonic Heroes.

What a game! I spent nearly 150 hours in Hyrule and I absolutely loved every moment of it! Everything is perfect! One of the best games I ever played, and it's a masterpiece without a doubt...

If I were trying to beat 52 games in 52 weeks, would you guys say that completing the Breath of the Wild DLC counts toward that goal? I'm a little behind (only 34 games complete this year so far), so I'm trying to play shorter stuff, but I want to make sure that what I play counts towards my goal! (This would be my fourth straight year of playing 52 games over the course of the year.)
