If I'd had any idea just how closely interconnected Syberia I and II are -- they basically tell one story between the two of them -- I'd have waited until I had completed part II before reviewing them both. The story is obviously quite predictable for this installment, which, oddly enough, didn't detract from its power, at least for me. It's been one week since I finished the game and the plot and characters still stay with me.
On the mechanics side, part II is a lot more enjoyable than part I. Basically, all of the problems mentioned in my review of Syberia 1 have been dealt with. Kate Walker's walk is reasonably speedy, the environments are varied and lively, the puzzles are somewhat more complex and rewarding, and even the dialogue has been made much more concise. Add to that the absolutely gorgeous animal animations (I want a youki!) and the beautiful background art, and you've got an excellent adventure that doesn't just work as a story, but as a game. I'm sure I will replay this some day, perhaps when I'm old and grey and have found (or failed to find) my own personal mammoths?
