Beyond a Steel Sky was a genuine surprise. Aside from sharing the same world and a few familiar elements with Beneath a Steel Sky, it largely stands on its own. It feels less like a direct continuation and more like a new story set within the same universe.
It is not a masterpiece, nor is it groundbreaking. But it does not need to be. It is a well-crafted, reasonably priced adventure with a lot of charm. The tone, the setting, and the characters work well together, and the experience remains consistently enjoyable.
In the end, it may not redefine the genre, but as a sequel to a classic, it is far better than one might have expected. I was pleasantly surprised and genuinely enjoyed playing it.
