Love the switching between time lines. The battle scenes with the brown shadows. The graphic was eye candy for sure I hated it when it ended. They did his work justice. 5 stars due to me being bias about one of my favorite adventure games from my childhood and I played the first game with my papa.

After two games of the the Batman Arkham series I need a slower less adrenaline game. Plus I think I'm developing cramps in my hand ouch 😅 after a small break I'll be ready for the last and game from Rocksteady trilogy mainline anyway.

I remember playing a bit of the first game but was never good at solving puzzles in point & click adventure games so didn't get too far. But what I did see made a lasting impression on me. The setting was mysterious and intriguing. I was surprised to discover this 4th game and watched a playthrough of the previous games in preparation.

The graphics of the environment and architecture are stunning. You get fictional locations that appear to be based on Austria. The people's hair, however, look kinda weird. But overall the visuals with the sounds and music make for a strong presentation.

Besides the series main playable protagonist Kate in the present, you also get to play as Dana in the past, the late 1930s. The story switches between the two multiple times as Kate learns more about Dana, whom she shares a strong physical resemblance to. This switching of control also comes into play with some puzzle solving.

The game can be controlled entirely with just the mouse. You use it to move and also observe or use objects on the screen or talk to people. There are small visual indicators that indicate things and people that you can interact with so you won't have to constantly click nearly everywhere to find important things of interest. There is an inventory and puzzles to solve with various objects. Most are not difficult being mostly based on reality but some that involve automatons can be challenging. There's a hint system that offers different levels of hints you can reveal so that you don't have to spoil the solution entirely when all you need is a little nudge.

I liked the story but anyone familiar with war related stories that have some romance can probably see where this game's story will go. Also for fans of the previous games, this game while enjoyable really feels almost like a soft reboot. Other than automatons, Oscar and Olivia (in like one or two conversations on the phone), there's really nothing that connects this game's story with the previous games. The atmosphere is also different from previous games that had a sense of isolation with most locations being remote with few people. In this game you're in mostly locations with many people but oddly you have no cellphone unlike the early games. It almost seems inaccurate to even include Syberia in the name of this game. Other than perhaps missing a few references, one can play this game without playing the previous ones. But there is a short "Previously" video you can watch in the menu before starting a new game that does summarize the past games.

I enjoyed the game and it seems to be more intuitive to play than previous games. But don't expect this game to recapture the atmosphere of the first two games.
